Well .. just because his tunes are free to download .. i don't think they are really "free and open to everybody". People that may reuse them with not OFT but eg. tactrix may step on grey legal ground. Just because it's easily doable and he hasn't pursued any legal action or put download limits, imho is not exactly "free and open" to all.

The is log of stock brz\86 , stock tune in sounth africa on the best fuel they can get which is 95 ron.

This is on a stock ZA1JA01G rom which has transient retard di seal fix. This issue only relivant if you shifted gear at redline or near and the rpm remained over 5000.

As tou can see the knock is bad and constant and IAM has falllen to 0.3 , to reduce timing but still significant knock events.

This was just on street driving.

In South Africa they did have a number of di deal failure on early cars is before A00G rom ie 700G and A01G. But mainly tracked cars or cars driven very hard .

However every stock brz\86 in South Africa will look like that, and they are not all blown up. The stock tunes were all basicly same timing and fueling wise from 2012-2016.

Stock tuned cars all round the world set IAM initial to 0.7

With tuning it was possible to keep the IAM at one and reduce knock events to less than -1.

@steve99: Are you suggesting that it is safe to use the v4 tunes with the lowest quality fuel? I believe this should be answered by Shiv himself, but he hasn't made a single post in the community since last June and you opened the topic about the new tunes. So, I am asking you or I would be happy to see him back and say something about this.

This was the main topic of this discussion and to my knowledge it is something new for the v4 tunes. On the v2 tunes there were 2 different maps per fuel quality.

Pretty sure shiv states in the release notes with tunes its ok to run v4 on 91.

Cars in Australia on stock tunes se IAM arroind 0.5 to 0.8 constant ly on out 98 fuels , same in asian countries. European japanese and usa 93 superior fuels to asian australian southafrican, we always see iam flictuating arround 0.7 .

Tuners set iam to 1 as they assume enthusiasts who tune thier cars will run quality fuel or fuel the tune is specificly designed for.

The also set iam to 1 so car will produce max performance straiggt away for dyno runs and as soon as you start up.

Setting iam to 0.7 is fine, just exra safety margin for low quality fuels.

Shiv is doing same as factory its basicly a 93 tune then set iam to 0.7.

Factory dies same thing its basicly a 93 tune and they setviam to 0.7 to make it safer to run low quality fuel or to account for poor fuels like Asia australia and south africa.

Yes you can get a slighlty better result by specificly tuning for say 95 ron fuel and setting iam to one, the only down side would be if you ran vetter fuel you could not get advantafe unless you changed tune.

Yes it a compromise by oft but i dont think its unsafe, its just same method as factory is using.

Guys who find that tge iam is solid at 1 can just change iam inital to 1.

Guys who wanted a specific lower octane tune could just remove a little timing where they see flkc and then set iam to 1.

Thats what people like about oft tunes you can alter it yourself ot get someone to alter it if you want.

Lets people get an insight into tuning, its not for everyone and some people frefer to pay extra for a customised setup.

But at least we have options which is the great thing

You really needed the good steve to basically repeat the things about IAM 2 times to believe it, didn t you?
and I thought it wasn t hard to understand that Shiv basically did it also to let people with OFT run every fuel withouth worries or having constantly the OFtablet in their car just in case they couldn t use always the same fuel..

as soon as the developer of those tunes put it online on his website so that everyone can donwload them, I do whatever I want with them
if it was a problem, he would encrypt them like all other tuners do

You don't get what a community is and that sometimes a few members need to standout and mention things no matter how annoying might sound. I am really sad for you if you are here trying to satisfy just some ego or whatever else. It was clear to me when you started commenting about my choices and what I am doing in my own car. The movie studio putting something online for free download is a little different from pirates putting something online for download. I do see where you are coming from about the Tactrix though.

I do the same with Shiv's tunes.

If the people that made the tunes actually cared, they could use something like a cc NC sa, which says anyone can do whatever they want with it as long as its non commerical use and what ever they do keeps this license. The fact thats it is free as in gratis and free as in libre has nothing to do with quality, and anyone saying different has either a vested intrest or is ignorant. If they wanted to use tunes that arent copiable they could have used some kind of encryption that needs the tuners private key to work. I assume that ecutek uses some kind of private/public key encryption which prevents someone from sharing their tunes with the world

Perrin's CAI is no longer good to use with these tunes without MAF scaling. I averaged -15% LTFT.
