So you have check points within the continental US? Do they actualy ever catch anybody? I mean if you are hiding something just take a different road right?

No Canadian in their right mind goes to south Texas anyway.

And this is several miles from the actual border right? Is traffic forced to stay on that road to this point somehow? I am confused as to why people have to pass through there.

Out here in the west, frequently areas with mountains and deserts don't have *any* alternate routes for several hundred miles in any direction.
I suppose there are foot trails, but you won't find many vehicles that can negotiate them.
Out there, the helicopters and infra-red spotters are the norm.

Its miles away from the border. There are multiple check points around the same distance away. I'm not to sure if there is a way around it I'm sure there is. When your leaving the valley you pass through a check point. They have dogs sniffing for drugs and BP agents checking all vehicles passing by mostly a visual check, they'll pull you aside for further investigation. They also have a lane for 18 wheelers and buses. They are equipped with x-ray machines as well iirc.

OK so I am now probably on many watch lists for my searches. Apparently the fixed points such as this are pretty easy to avoid if you want too. The temporary ones just a small bit tougher. Yet they still manage to catch piles of drugs and people a year.

" Hey Raul grab the truck with the 1,000 keys of coke and let's hit the back roads"
" Nah I am in a hurry let's just drive through the checkpoint and hope they don't catch us"

Ya but that is the PNW. They are watching for people trying to leave it not get into it! It is an attempt to keep all the hipsters in one area.

Strange, isn't it? "War on X" is the answer to most of it.

I have seen BP agents bring in those 55gallon trash cans full of drugs at the Falfurrias checkpoint. Later in the news I found out it was worth a quarter million. The Falfurrias checkpoint has infrared cameras to detect heat. They have caught people hiding in dashboards of 18 wheelers and suvs.

That is why it baffles me so much. You know it is there just don't go that way if you have something to hide. Unless there is something I am missing and could not find I see no reason why you have to pass through it if you really don't want to.

You'd be surprised they sometimes do that intentionally. They have one vehicle with a small amount of drugs to keep them busy, vehicle or 18 wheeler, and one with a bigger payload a small ways back. As for illegals they will make false walls in 18 wheeler cabs or false floors in the trailers. We've had cases where the coyotes or smugglers leave the trailers at some random location full of illegals and they die due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.

You might find this video informational

Oh I know the ways and I can see it at the boarder where there are no options but just go another way not straight through the checkpoint.
