I think it probably because there are too many orders behind his. Since all the PP cars will be built around Jan or Feb, it is reasonable that other orders may be pushed back.

Yeah it seems Subaru may have underestimated the demand for this car.

I have no idea what the plant's rate is but most of the plants I deal with have a production rate of 500 to 700 vehicles a shift. Doubt there are enough PPs in the queue to push a normal one out for that long. Subaru has always made a big deal about a 4 to 6 week delivery on an ordered (regular production) car so this is very abnormal for them.

According to a report at 2012, all the BRZ are built at Gunma Main plant (群馬製作所本工場) , the 1st factory of Subaru, which can produces 110,000 cars a year. On the line, they combined all 86( including frs), BRZ, Impreza wagon orders and part of XV( aka Crosstrek) orders. Maybe the other car's demand is high since winter is coming and everyone buying a 4x4. Also maybe because the performance package is not only sold here, but also in other countries and Toyota also has the same package at least in Japan. Maybe there is a small queue formed on the production line.

Ya you probably nailed it and the scheduling for the other cars may very well take up the space at this time of year and they are not (or can't ) going to change that simply because there is a higher than planned for demand for the BRZ. This planning is what I have preached for years when people think they can just flick a switch and make more or less of a vehicle within a model year.

I think the Impreza is being pushed hard to make up for lost time. Personally think Subaru would like to get as many AWD models out before winter that they can. I get not building a RWD sports car for the Northern Hemisphere this time of year. Truth is their slow selling, low volume, sports car is just not that important to produce as they try to break sales records.

Consider how many car they want to sell, the main plant is really a small plant. They planned to sell 1,033 thousands cars globally this year and 25% will be produced here in Indiana, 75% will be in Gunma. Since the Gunma Yajima plant can produce around 600,000 cars, the main plant maybe has boosted to 175 thousands cars a year (According my terrible math). Another report published at 2014 shows brz sold 16,884 and Toyota 86 sold 48,834 globally which is 65,718 combined. If the demand of brz is still climbing up, who knows how long time they need.

Whatever times they planned to build it is when they will build it. Sure does throw a wrench into all those guys that were promised PP cars for December though. Unless they are already made and SOA just hasn't distributed VINs yet.

See, the weird thing is when I went in to order my '17 without PP (before I changed my mind) I was told it'd take 6-8 weeks but most likely up to 12.

Unless that dealer/salesman is trying to overdeliver then that's kinda absurd.

The dealership tells bullshit. I ordered mine early Oct and I was told to expect it late Dec. Now we all know it won't be here at that time. If you just ordered one, I'm positive that you can get it around 12 weeks which will be early March. It is still hard to tell when the 1st delivery of PP cars gonna arrive. Hope it won't be here too late.

Yeah but I'm talking non-PP; the guy said ordering that would wind up taking about 8-12 weeks anyway, maybe 6 weeks.

Would having ordered the PP BRZ version had any impact on date receiving it? Seems fixed. Will there be an order at all? I wonder.

The RF Miata will be out by the time this sucker is out :/

Call and ask. Seems like subaru is getting way more orders than anticipated which is why non-PP are getting pushed back as well
