Second Boxer Back in the Garage

Well, it's taken 2.5 years and countless increases to the budget, but I finally have my "baby" back in the garage. As much as I love the FRS (and how much it reminds me of my old 944T), there's just nothing quite like a 70's sportscar.

Not to bore everyone with a long story (read as "here comes a long story"), but my first car was a 914. I sold it to buy a Boxster at the time, and, as much as I loved the Boxster, it just wasn't the same. I guess some cars you never forget. Anyway, I picked it up from an older gentleman in central Cali when I started law school, thinking I could restore it in my spare time- yeah, I thought that through well, right?

The car was rust free when I got it, though the paint was a cheap respray. Started with pulling the motor and rebuilding it, then the rest of the car became a "I might as well just do it all while the car is in pieces" project. Fast forward to now, the car has been fully restored- it ended up being a full rotisserie restoration. Aluminum heads, a little hotter cam, and a little bit bigger pistons added- just shy of going to the big bore kit. Bilstein suspension. Dual Dellorto carbs.

More pics to come, but here's a few to get started- might as well start with the finished product

Very nice!

I just went through that entire process. Took me 5 years.
Went from this:

To this:

I bought my BRZ specifically because I was already a boxer fan.

And currently the 914 is faster on the track than the BRZ (but it cheats by running Hoosiers )

I'm surprised by how torque-y the 914 ended up being. Not quite as fast as the FRS but, given the 40 year difference, I would hope not

I dig the green, too. Yours looks like it started almost the same as mine did!

Porsche, BRZ, SW20?

No, I'm not jealous at all. Not at all....

Quit trying to out think the engineers and just drive the car.

That's an awesome looking 914!

And an MR2 also. Very nice. Sell the FRS and switch from boxers to mid engine (NOT front "mid engine") only
