My lights are running without external power without any "showstopper" issues, but it's definitely not ideal. Once the headlights/driving lights turn on it goes in to some sort of limp mode that lights my gauges up like a Christmas tree and disables ABS and cruise. Trailer lights are incandescent and I would guess LED would be fine, but I'll be replacing it with a powered part whenever I get off my lazy ass. It's been over a year

I'm not sure but I was under the impression the power was due to having separate turn/stop signalling on the FRS (and many other cars) so the powered part converts them to a single wire for a trailer light via relays to the straight vehicle power. Or some similar combination of electrical sounding words.

Well, that's the point of the adapter I have in the car now, but it's not externally powered. It combines/splits/whatever so the power for the car lights hits the right circuits in the trailer lights but there isn't enough power to handle driving lights plus brakes.

Gotcha. Well I can at least say that the powered one I have worked fine with both the regular and LED lights. It certainly takes more work to install though.

Towed the bike about 1500 miles with no issues. You might say it went off without a hitch.

Picked up my twin hitch the other day, curious if you guys are towing on a tune or stock setup? I'd feel pretty confident stock but not sure on tune.. Mods are grimmspeed intake, open flash header, evo gt catback, e85 tune. Don't mind running the 91 tune just whatever would be the safest setup on the car. MAXIMUM weight would a very small trailer (5x8ish), in car luggage small passanger, and 2 honda groms (200lbs each). Distance would be ranging from 10 miles or Missouri to California and back.

I will be adding one of these to my BRZ in the Spring.

For anyone who has a trailer, how and where did you hook the wiring up for lights?

Thanks for any insight.

Here's the one I recommend. Plug and Play and less than $50.

I think that's the one I used (if not the same then essentially identical). The main pain point is running a wire from the trunk up to the battery. I wouldn't exactly call it "plug and play" because of that, but it wasn't too bad. You can run the wire under/behind interior trim along the passenger's side pretty easily.

I was wondering if this type of motorcycle hitch would work or would this have too much tongue weight?

Yikes.. I wouldn't do it. The hitches do fine pulling things laterally but those racks put a lot of torque on them, and the load is going to be about 200lbs. I saw someone with a hitch that attached to the rear tow hook points with a threaded rod - maybe triangulating to them could make it work.
