Sabine Schmitz racing at the 'Ring

I don't understand why there is such a huge difference between her and the other drivers here. Are the other drivers just out for a Sunday drive? She is on some other planet. Some alternate universe where time is running slower (maybe faster?). My God!! This is off the scale. Maybe all those 'Ring Taxi laps have done something.

I was about to say something like "how do these people have such awareness of the other cars that no one makes contact?" when all of a sudden there was a Porsche facing the wrong way and another car limping off the road. Whoops.

She's got more seat time there than nearly anyone, plus it's raining and she clearly knows where the grip is, plus I'm sure she's driving some serious hardware versus the other cars, especially before they get to the Nordschleife part of the lap.

I'm guessing it's a combination of some of the following:
1. She's on rain tires and the others aren't
2. She has more experience
3. The competition is not the best
4. She has better power:weight ratio than many of the other cars
5. Some other stuff I'm forgetting

The point is, there are many variables with many combinations that could explain speed differentials like that.

That lady definitely drives angry. I dig her style. She drives like me, but actually good, I have the balls, but like 0.5% of the skill.

Quit trying to out think the engineers and just drive the car.

And then there's Leh Keen...one of my favorite drivers in sports car racing:

That was intense to watch all that passing. In the beginning it looked like the other drivers were just trying to survive the start on cold tires and rain, but she was determined to jump the field. Towards the end I agree with the above, cajones and knowledge of the track. Really impressive to watch. Great driving.

iirc from Top Gear, she's one of the drivers with the most seat time on the 'ring. She knows every inch of the track, so that gives her a huge advantage.

Well when you've lapped that track several thousand times, I'd imagine one would get good at going round it fairly quickly regardless of what their in lol
