Saw this car at a local meet. Totally stealth, I love it.

Mine are very 'home made' I wouldn't trust my skills to make something nice enough to sell.

So I am going to be the ****...

I have seen so many times on here and other boards people trying to go the cheap route and in the end they end up spending MORE money to fix shit.

Hope it doesn't happen to you.

Awesome job man!! I don't want to do anything this crazy to my brz, but I have thought of grabbing a crashed brz/frs and swapping a v8 in there!! Enjoy the car!!

The only thing 'cheap' that I've done that will/has come back to haunt me are the used parts. In my mind it has nothing to do with being a swap and just the risk you run of buying any used car parts. For example, the transmission I bought has issues, not a good purchase. I didn't have the money to drop on a new Tremec T56 so I got one used off kijiji. My build isn't perfect but it's the price I pay for actually diving in and doing it with basically no help and limited funds. I know a lot of people who don't like something unless it's perfect. I find most of them end up with nothing unless they have extra money. Every mistake I make I learn something; 10 years ago I didn't even know how to change oil. I wasted a lot of money and time on cars over the years to get to a point where I could tackle something like this. I wish I had the money to drop on a brand new LS7 engine and Tremec Magnum XL transmission but I don't. I got the car to a point where I can drive it everyday to work and I'm happy with that. Next year I can spend time and money making it closer to perfect.
For now I will enjoy it for what it is, a brand new FRS with a V8 that burns oil and a transmission that whines.

Very good read, honesty and the self satisfaction knowing you did it your self....

After seeing this car in person about a month ago (maybe more, maybe less, can't remember), it was rough around the edges, and the engine bay was a bit of a mess, it was still super cool to know you did it all yourself. Apart from me saying things aren't quite perfect yet, it's still great to see you tear apart a brand new car and drop a big ol V8 into it. If I had the space, the tools and the patience to do something like this, I would. But I don't, so I can sit here on the Internet and just give kudos to the dudes who do this shit on their own, instead of forking over 20k to a shop for it to get done.

Even when I saw it, and it was barely running at a BRZworld meet, I was blown away, and super pumped on it, regardless of a shitty transmission, or a fucked up throttle body.

Awesome job! But just to clarify, you used the aluminum 5.3, not the iron 4.8, correct?

Correct.
I would have preferred to just use the 4.8 but I wanted to limit the weight increase.

No idea, haven't gone.
I'm not huge into drag racing and the "local" drag strip can be pretty busy.
Drive 2 hours to wait in line to get a few runs in, not my cup of tea.
I'm sure eventually I will go though. I went once with stock FRS and got a best of 14.7 @ 93mph.
I'm considering changing to an iron block 4.8. It will add 100lbs which is disappointing but my 5.3 aluminum block from kijiji is no good. Bearings are toast and it's knocking.
Junkyard 4.8 is by far the cheapest fix and they can handle boost really easy.
