what makes this technology only available in high end products, what are the component complexities and costs that prohibit this being used universally?

Nothing but money. It'll fit on pretty much any Penske shock.

I bet half the parts alone for a penske shock could pay for some Teins.

is that mostly R&D cost? If demand was much higher (say, OEM) would the cost go down significantly?

Not R&D, just quantity limits. OEMs would not be paying anywhere near that much.

Given the exchange rate atm the double adjustables without springs would end up costing approximately AUD18k with import taxes. Yeah, I guess I'm passing on these

I just have to wonder, with all these complex (and expensive) valve designs, when aftermarket computer controlled/magnetic dampers are really going to hit their stride. Like these people: http://www.magneshocks.com/roadracing.htm
Program any curve you want, have selectable curves based on terrain. Heck have a Nurburgring setting that knows via gps when you're about to hit the carousel and adapts accordingly. I have to think it will eventually obsolete designs discussed in this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For the performance aftermarket, not likely going to happen. Magnetorheological dampers are literally the worst thing you could do for a performance damper. Its the fluid equivalent of sand paper, we developed the first set for McLaren over a decade ago and they couldn't match curves before and after a test due to wear of everything internal.

Ahh interesting. Do you know how the factory magnetic setups (like GM) are getting around this longevity problem? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Other than starting with looser tolerances to hide it and minimal damping rates, they're not.
