Ordered some new bits recently

Firstly the StopTech big brake kit for the front (328mm), which has already turned up as you can see below. Should be fitting them later this week.

Secondly, forged engine internals carrillo con rods and carrillo 10:1 pistons, stronger valve springs, ARP head bolts, cosworth head gaskets, better spark plugs, and the Reimax oil pump gear.

Oh and a Mishimoto radiator and baffled oil sump. From my searches it seems like there's some debate on this forum as to whether or not either of those things are necessary, but I'd rather be on the safe side.

Love the build thread keep it going!!

Just a quick question on the whiteline rear subframe bush inserts.

In my brz, in first or 2nd gear in almost any rpm range, if I romp on the throttle i get 2-3 solid stutters/jerks. Its been driving me absolutely crazy as i've never felt anything like that in any car and its just ridiculous. Is it Subaru and Toyota cutting cost corners and just not refining that aspect of the drive train or whats the deal. But anyways, just wondering if those inserts helped the jerkiness in you car.

Cheers!

Yeah I hated that as well and the rear subframe bushing inserts did make a noticeable difference to that. I wouldn't say it gets rid of it 100% but it definitely makes it better (and that's coming from someone who doesn't normally notice small changes that other people say make a "noticeable" difference). There's a guide here on how to install them: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20920

Never had it on a dyno so no idea what BHP and Nm its making, but Fensport said it will probably be around 300 at the moment. To be honest I'm not really interested in the peak power figures, just want it to feel good and drive well.

So this may have slightly slowed down my progress with the car... did a track day at Cadwell and smashed it in to a barrier. Will strip the broken bodywork off it tomorrow and see how serious the damage is.

At coppice, the first corner after the start finish straight. Was a weird crash - I'd been driving a different car round the same track earlier that day, and the gear shift on the other car isn't as short as on the 86, so I went to downshift just before the corner and instead of going into 4th I accidentally put it into 2nd.... lol 2nd gear at 90 mph obviously just locked the rear wheels as soon as I let the clutch out. Video here for anyone who wants to laugh at my stupidity

Its a universal head rest mount that has a tripod thread on it, so I just use the gopro tripod mount with it.

So I'm still repairing the car (pics below) but look what turned up today

Carrillo rods and pistons (10:1 CR) and a few other little bits

They were ordered before the crash, but as long as the engine is ok I'll go ahead and get them installed once everything else is repaired. Oh and the Reimax oil pump gear and Mishimoto rad also arrived the other day.

Anyway, here's some photos of the car now that I've stripped some of the broken bits off it

Forgot to update this thread again.

I finished repairing all the crash damage a few weeks ago, got the replacement panels wrapped etc and she's now pretty much as good as new

Went for a slightly different wrap on the front, with the gloss black part along the bottom centre section below the number plate. Also replaced the fog lights with the APR carbon fibre cooling ducts (which were a nightmare to get to fit even half decent).

The engine seems to be fine despite the over revving during the crash - I've done about 300 miles of hard driving since with no problems. It passed an MOT a few days ago as well, although I guess that doesn't mean much but at least it proves its not a wreck lol

Finally got round to installing the new StopTech big brake kit last week as well:

Word of warning to anyone considering these - the stock 17 inch wheels don't fit over the callipers. My 17 inch OZ wheels fit fine due to the lower offset though. Haven't had chance to drive it much yet since fitting the new brakes but first impressions are that they feel a lot better than the DBA discs and hawk pads I had before (with stock callipers).

Anyway, in a couple of weeks I'll be taking the engine out and getting the new pistons/rods/valve springs installed looking forward to it

Don't complain... You could live in (South Africa)... We have to import pretty much everything, and our currency isn't strong!
