I explain this to all of my customers as the new car burn. It will last approx 100-200 miles. It will smell very foul and acrid, almost like burning plastic. After the first few hundred miles it should go away.

In other words, no worries.

This always happens! My wife and my mom had the same issue within a week of each other...lol

Or its just the normal break-in smells from the exhaust, etc...

aside from oils on the metal buning off its also the sulfur on the gasoline. most states has adopted CA emissions as result you may get some odors coming out of the exhaust. this usually happens when using cheaper gas with no additives. eg: costco vs. chevron, shell, mobil, exxon.

Just like previously stated, it's completely normal. Brand new motorcycles do the same thing too.

It's the modern "new car smell".

Just don't ask for it at the car wash.

We should all be more concerned when we don't smell it anymore...that means new car isn't so new anymore.

Just brought my new FR-S home. I sell for a big three and smell that odor after every test drive.

I didn't mention anything before, because i was a little worried, as i smelled it too from day one. First off, NONE of my Subarus have had this smell. Its not just the hot engine smell, but like a drip of oil hitting the header kind of smell. With about 15 new cars under my belt, this has NEVER happened. My car has 500 hard miles and it still does it. Our shop car has about 100 miles, 40 of which are on the dyno, and it still smells. This is not new exhaust smell, or anything like have had before. I do hope it goes away soon. In fact, i have an appointment next week at the dealer for this and a few other issues, just to make sure its ok.
