Yeah good luck finding a Z4 or SLK anywhere near that light. (Current gen's at least). It's easy to spec out a Cayman that way - it's called going light on the options.

Honda will bring a concept vehicle with the unorthodox name 2 & 4 to the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show next month, and the moniker won’t be the only unusual thing about this latest Honda concept.

The 2 & 4 is the product of a collaboration between Honda’s automotive and motorcycle design teams, and is the winner of a global internal design competition the Japanese firm recently held among its various units.
Honda says the concept features a “cabin-less structure” that makes for an experience somewhere between riding a motorcycle and driving a car. Honda claims it combines the “freedom of a motorcycle and the maneuverability of a car.” That seems to indicate that the 2 & 4 will be largely open, leaving the driver exposed to the elements.

That in turn sounds a lot like the recent spate of track cars, like the Ariel Atom, KTM X-Bow, and Vuhl 05. All of these cars sacrifice creature comforts for performance, and while they are road legal in some countries, they’re not exactly what you’d call everyday cars.

The 2 & 4 will be powered by the same engine used in Honda RC213V MotoGP racing bikes. That’s a 1.0-liter V-4, which produces over 230 horsepower in racing form. Depending on how light the car is, that could make for a very entertaining drive. A nimble, minimalist car with a small, high-revving engine would make a nice counterpoint to today’s bulky mainstream production cars.

If the 2 &4 really does turn out to be a track car, there’s no telling what Honda’s plans for it could be. Given the limited market for theses highly-specialized vehicles, and mainstream carmakers’ typical squeamishness about liability issues, a Honda track car wouldn’t seem to have much chance for production.

But as a concept, it will probably help Honda restore its performance image. For a while, Honda had a reputation for building some of the nicest-driving mainstream cars around. That’s not quite the case anymore, but models like the Civic Type-R and Acura NSX do show that Honda is once again interested in performance. It would be great if Honda could imbue more of its regular models with some of that verve.

GUYS don't give them the clicks!!!!!!!

Here is what motoring invented this time:

Toyota will lead a Japanese brand renaissance at this year's Tokyo motor show in October when it reveals a number of new hybrids, fuel cell concepts, people-movers and – most significantly for car enthusiasts – the Small FR Concept.

FR is Japan-speak for 'front-engine, rear-drive' and the coupe it refers to is an all-new compact two-door being developed by none other than Toyota’s new World Rally Championship team boss and four-times WRC champion Tommi Makinen.

A source close to Toyota tells us Makinen is using his rallying skills to finely tune the car’s chassis, which will be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine rumoured to generate around 96kW.

Production of Toyota's all-new entry-level sports car, which is expected to weigh less than 980kg, is slated to start around December 2016, with the first cars due to land in showrooms globally by early 2017.

The best news? Toyota is understood to be targeting a price tag of less than $20,000.

But that's not all. Toyota will also use this year's Tokyo show to unveil the products of its high-profile joint-venture sports car project with BMW.

The German car-maker has already hinted at the fruit of its labour in the form of the 3.0 CSL Hommage R Concept, which should preview a replacement for its Z4 Roadster, and Tokyo is where we can expect to see Toyota's take on the project.

We reported last month that Toyota's belated Supra successor will employ a BMW-sourced 3.0-litre turbo-petrol six, as well as a plug-in hybrid powertrain based around the same engine.

Our sources say Toyota has already green-lighted its own design and that "it can hold its ground in the styling department against the BMW”, which would be no mean feat.

Toyota's two coupe concepts, which preview production models that will bookend the 86 in a new sports car family from the world's biggest car-maker, will headline a rejuvenated Tokyo show for 2015.

Japan's biggest auto show might have been relegated to B-grade status in the region following the surge in prominence of China's Beijing and Shanghai shows in recent years.

However, this year's Tokyo show is expected to return to its glory days of the 1990s, spurred on by strong overseas sales by the county's biggest car-makers led by Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mazda, all of which have at least two show cars in store – many of them significant, some of them fun and a handful just plain wacky.

Thanks Tcoat! Of course everything is speculation until we see it with our own eyes. But I do think its going to be a big showing for Toyota at the Tokyo autoshow, the timing seems right and weve been hearing alot about these projects for a while now.

The problem is we have only been hearing about the projects from motoring.au or sites that have quoted them. There has not been one single reliable source of any info on any of them in a year. Will of course be very interesting to see just how close (or far) motoring's guesses and pure fiction stack up to reality. They have of course thrown so much shit out there that some of it has to stick.

At least Mazda issued a formal press release on their concept which is way more that Toyota does anymore.

Ya I threw myself on that grenade to copy what was said to try to prevent even more clicks.
They prey on people on forums like this with their fictional "insider" reports and "confidential" information. It is one of my biggest pet peeves in the world.
