Anyway after 1,000km of street driving, the front brake rotors are almost flat now. What pads do you recommend for street and ocassional track use?

Your face was priceless I'm surprised they didn't make you remove the cups and stuff. That coffee might burn your crotch off.

Changed my pads to the StopTech ones and it did make a big difference. Ran Thunderhill two day event where we had 117 degrees on the Saturday. Pretty sure the stock pads would have totally died on that hot day but the Stoptech pads help up pretty fine. I think the slight fading I got was more due to the brake fluid temperature.

Forget pads that are a compromise. Replace your OEM pads with another set of OEM pads (unless you don't like their feel and performance (on the street)). And buy yourself a set of track only pads, for the track.

Just swap them out before and after your track event.

Sorry for the necro bump. I didn't want to create a new thread.

My rotors are in the same condition after taking them with the stock pads to the track. They don't catch a fingernail, but I can definitely feel them with my fingers. Should I replace with for next time? I'm definitely getting new pads.

Maybe, it just might be possible, that the stock pads aren't really up to the task of track day? Idk just seems like an assumption to me. Can anyone back this up?

Stock pads are unacceptable in track conditions for anyone with any experience. The stock pad compound (and fluid) was never designed to work in the temperature ranges that are common at the track.

Edit, as far as backing it up, I've seen the stock fluid boil way too easily and stock pads go from full to backing plate in one track day.

^ Lol

@OP, that seems pretty normal. Even my stock brakes and pads at 12K miles have that same issue on my front brakes. I'd just make sure your pads are wearing correctly and you don't have any rocks or debris caught in there. I've seen some pretty crazy wear on the inside of rotors because the breaks weren't position correctly.

I've been using Project Mu HC+ 800 pads and Dot 5.1 on my otherwise stock GT86 (unless you call an oil pressure gauge a mod). I make the front brakes smoke regularly, but no fade or soggy pedal after 20mins on track.

I get juddering due to this 'scarring' on the disc. Few 100 miles of street driving sorts it out usually.

Oh yeah, dont use 300C caliper paint either. It burns
