OP, try a cushion under your butt, not behind your back.

I sit in Pole Position...

But all jokes aside, I hope you are using proper restraints w/ a bucket seat. Stock seat belt + bucket seat is just asking for excessive movement in a crash.

Seating position should be whatever suits you so you have proper arm movement and visibility.

Race car would be something like this:

Tromatic may be on to a solution there.

I drove a miata for 88,000 miles with a piece of 5/8", closed cell foam (like backpackers use to sleep on) cut to fit the inner section of the bottom of the seat. In addition, on really long trips, I used a inexpensive foam wedge (cut in half lengthwise) behind my tailbone and the back of the seat.

Worked for this ol boy .....

I don't think it is a matter of padding, it's how small she is. Sitting higher in the seat itself (not actual seat height) is what she needs is my guess.

Once you adjust for your legs, and then the seat back tilt & steering wheel for your arms, you have little or no support for mid back area? I got sheepskin insert style seat covers made. Or regular seat covers, a shop I'm sure could add foam to fill in the void. Maybe you should post a side view pic, might help.

I'm also 5'2
I have the seat all the way up and pushed far enough so my arms bend a little when holding the wheel
I have to play with the back position a little until it's perfect
When you push the pedals all the way your knees should be slightly bent

Don't think I have a picture but can take one later

I'm 6'1. I have the seat about 1 or 2 notches forward from fully back. I have to point my toe very slightly to floor the clutch, but I very seldom need to do that while actually driving.

I have the steering wheel pulled fully towards me and the seat back set so I have some bend in my arms around the full lock.

I don't go for the full on sit upright so you can put your wrists on top of the wheel without lifting your shoulders off the seat back. Maybe on a track should I ever get there, but I do want 'some' cool.

I actually wish the seat would go an inch lower.

When exiting the vehicle, it's a good idea to slide the seat all the way back. This is a suggestion I gave my wife (5'2"-ish), who sits with her seat almost all the way up.

This is not an easy vehicle to get in and out of, particularly in tight situations, and moving the seat all the way back makes it easier to enter and exit. If you can get into this habit, it will make your life better (it has for my wife).

I am 5'1" with rather short legs. I do not really like feel like I am sitting in a chair, with bent knees. Thanks to my MX-5 prior to my FR-S, I know that I will not go back to sedans any time soon... So, about my driving position:
- seat as low as possible.
- seat pulled forward so that my left leg is fully extended when pressing the clutch pedal. Then I add one more click forward. That way I still keep some strength in my leg and limit the risk of my foot slipping.
- steering wheel all the way close to the dash and as low as possible.
- seat reclined so that my arm is almost fully stretched when my hand reaches the top of the steering wheel. With that setup and my body proportions, I can shift all gears with close to no upper body twist.

It is comfortable during long distance trips, even though I never use the head rest. The only drawback I have noticed is that the driver side mirror creates a huge blind spot at crossroads.

I hope this helps!
