"With manual transmission : indicated speed of 60mph is 2600 RPM, 70mph is 3000 RPM, and 80mph is 3450 RPM. That is better than I hoped in that I'm one of those guys that likes an overdrive 6th gear for good mileage and quiet interior at highway speed." If the auto is doing 2500 RPM at 74 then I think I will consider dropping in the 3.73 rear diff gearing. Sure, it will make all the gears taller but I can live with that. I don't think it will get me to 2500 RPM at 74, probably something more like 2650 RPM at 70 mph but it's closer. |

I do 50/50 city highway split and I got 19 on the first tank, and about 24 on the second tank. A bit more highway on the second tank and a bit less hooning too.

wow, definitely exceeded my expectations of "real life" as well. Be interesting to see what it does when we start modding/tuning.

subscribed, im really liking these numbers reachin up to the 30mpg range
this will likely be the deciding factor that seals the deal for the BRZ for me, most competitors im shopping get ~20mpg |

in my experience so far is that real life mpg for any car isn't far off or exactly how it is rated (assumming normal driving)
the 2-3 examples up top are exactly at rated mpg with that being said, if your car is rated 35mpg on the highway, doesnt matter how you drive or what you do, you CAN NOT get 45 mph on the highway. speaking from experience with the cars iv driven and read on what ppl get. |

And of course your driving style. Keep in mind some of these guys are babying their cars. Once you start winding the engine towards redline and higher RPM's you are not going to get EPA numbers most likely. Consumer Reports has done extensive testing with city vs highway and the consensus is most cars can meet or beat the EPA numbers on the highway, but it is hard to achieve EPA in the city. |

I'm anxious to see what I can get with the BRZ. My S4 is rated at 18-27mpg. I averaged 30.1mpg both ways on a recent 80mi. trip; on shorter trips I can get about 25mpg avg. My long-term average over 8,100 miles is 22.1mpg, 1.1mpg better than the EPA states.
However when I can't keep my foot out of the supercharger I'm hovering around 20mpg Not bad for 330awhp, though!

I think you're wrong about that. Some "hypermilers" can get well over 10 mpg more than rated. My 1998 Honda Civic has 208k miles on it and gets 40 to 42 mpg on the highway.. EPA rating is 34. I don't even try to eek out every mpg.. I just drive it normal. I don't know about the FRS/BRZ because I don't have one yet.. but I wouldn't be surprised to hear people getting close to 40 mpg if they really work at it. |

^^ well those hypermiles are an exception. there's always exception.
but for us normal people. what you see on paper is pretty much what you get IF you dont try to race every car you see. lol |

You can easily get more than EPA numbers. My car is rated 31 highway, and that is the mileage I get if I cruise around 75-80. But if I am on a roadtrip I cruise control at ~63 and get over 35.
You can look up the actual test cycle and how much load they put on the engine and stuff. You will see if you have a light foot you can exceed those numbers no problem. |

I would do the taller final drive swap and then sell the stock 4.1 gears. Not bad. BTW, the stock gauges lie. Speedometers always read several percentage points too high. Quote:
Were you even pushing it though? |
