The off-the-lot hit for the '14 itself warrants why it's at least 3k less.

A new 2015 is a brand new car, ymmv.. but you know what they incline.. a car driven off the lot loses a good chunk of its value

Okay, I'm convinced. the 2014 makes no sense.

A white or dark grey Sport Tech (Limited) 2015 it will be.

To put in my car craziness in perspective (and you guys like pics I am sure,

These are my current set of cars/trucks:

The Lexus and my snowmobile is being sold to fund the BRZ

When you say $3,000 difference between the new one, do you mean the discounted price of the new one or the MSRP?

If it's $3000 from the price you can buy the '15 at, I'd get the '14. There's no significant difference worth getting the 2015 over and it will take less of a depreciation hit considering you're buying it at that much lower of a price.

The OTD price of the '14 is $3000 less then the OTD price of a new 2015. (so that's with tax and everything)
I am sure if I set my mind on the '14 I would be able to get some more off but I haven't haggled over the 2015 either so the gap will probably be even smaller.

So for $3000 extra I will get the stuff listed in my first post. Which I think is a no brainer.

The dealer will probably be able to register me as first owner on the '14 so on paper it will look as if it's a '15.

Is that the prancing moose sticker on the Volvo? I love it.
I never buy new, let some else take the depreciation. I was willing to travel up to 500 mi to get the one I wanted. So I bought a 14 with 20k miles. (Sold new in Feb 14 and used by a commuter, highway miles) I paid far less than new and the cash I saved will go into mods I would make to a new one anyway.
I've had other Subarus and they just run forever so I'm not worried about anything major going wrong anytime soon.
Just another point of view.

Yes, I had to spice the Volvo up a bit and the prancing moose does the trick. Most people don't get it though lol. It's a 2005 S40 T5 AWD. I bought it last year for winter duty. Older but mint and low mileage (30k). It works well.
I usually buy used too but I have owned so many of them that there are some new ones on the list too.

Totally car fun stats:

I have owned a total of 47 cars
(and 7 motorcycles, 1 ATV, 1 snowmobile
 and 1 tractor)

Gasoline: 42, Diesel: 5 and LPG: 6

Front wheel drive: 21, Rear wheel drive: 17, All wheel drive: 9

Automatic: 10, Manual: 37

So the BRZ will be number 48

As for color I am still a bit on the fence. White was my initial choice but seeing DGM I must say I like it a lot. If I go for a '15 white I get the new Crystal White Pearl too, which is nice although all colors are technically new to me.

Not paying sticker is usually a bit of a challenge where I live. Canada has a lot less competition and people are to polite to haggle lol. And as far as I know, new vehicles don't have too much room to play $ wise.

How much off sticker can I expect within reason? I read a lot of stories about people getting crazy deals, but this is the internet so it might not always be completely true.

My scenario is that I pay cash and I don't have a trade.

Yep, different shocks and springs on the 2015's, it's definitely a nicer ride than the 2013 I test drove. Drive em both, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't tell the difference.

Color, well, that's personal opinion (and my opinion is you're boring ) but there's some great colors on these cars. I'm terribly attached to WRB (hence why I bought one in that color) as it's been catching my eyes for years on WRX's and STI's.

Haggle haggle haggle. MSRP is just that, manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price, there's quite a lot of room to haggle there. If you were in the states I'd say hit up Heuberger as they're the best price around but as you're not, I'd be asking around a bit to other people on the forums of what you should expect to pay up there.

Your money is a bit off from ours at any time so a price point is difficult to suggest

Yes, I will haggle haggle haggle for sure. And I will prepare myself before going in. I will do some paperwork so I know what is fair for both parties.
I might hit up Easycardiscount too. Thanks for the tip.

I ran into a glitch as far as selling my current vehicle. I had a serious buyer but I noticed that my transfer case is making a funny noise when it is freezing cold outside. I did some online searching and people assured me it is normal and I should not worry about it. But it goes against everything I stand for to sell a vehicle like that. So I am off to a transmission shop to diagnose and fix the problem before offering it the buyer.
And I need to sell the vehicle to fund the BRZ.

Make sure you do your research! Seems like you have, and like many others here, I would go for a 2015 model. I'm happy I went that route with my Series.Blue and I haven't looked back.
