One question: for Buttonwillow on 2/28, we are allowing AIM Solo DL lap times to be used with a 0.1second penalty. Would this be allowed for the 5/23 event as well? Would NorCal folks object to this?

-alex
I wouldn't object. You guys doing that on 2/28? I'll be there to observe.

Hmm I don't think Harry's Lap Timer would work then? Gotta buy me an aim solo!!!

Yah, too many folks at the event + not enough transponders. I'm taking the 0.1 penalty and using my AIM Solo DL.

If we do this I would ask that HLT be considered, again perhaps with an added time penalty (my personal experience is that yeah HLT is also perhaps about 0.1 s optimistic, but fairly consistent). If people are concerned about its accuracy being inconsistent we can address it maybe in other ways, but I wouldn't mind taking a 0.1 or 0.2 s penalty in order to save some money on transponder and timing costs. However I can see that being a PITA if everyone is chasing down Jessie or some other designated person after each session to prove their lap times.

So is the plan to allow other lap timing devices?
I'd like to be able to use my Qstarz timer and save on transponder costs.

This is in the talks. MyRx is going to SoCal to observe their system.

BTW I should add that this isn't concrete, we are trying this out at BW to reduce the risk of running out of transponders.

As much as we'd love to foot the bill for things like this, the series is still in its infancy. The end goal is to be able to get to a point where we all use the same timing mechanism and log lap times without penalty, but until then we can only use a deferred method such as this to address inconsistencies in timing.

Obviously if there is a large enough sample set of cars with AIM + track timing to address variances, then we can make a better call on what penalty (if any) to be assigned for 3rd party GPS timing.

That's correct, I'll be at BW to observe the SoCal 86Cup. NCRC does not lend out a Tx to everyone, only PointBy and Open drivers gets to rent it for a fee. And the 86Cup is suppose to have Tx set aside for us - however, with so few Tx rentals, they tend to have a surplus at the start of timing.

Noooo haha... Jk, I will help where I can. Not sure if people have objection to a "competitor" being part of the timing efforts. But let me just say, I think the talent pool is such that I will not likely be in contention this year in my class, last season's 3rd place finish was a fluke haha.
