I'll disagree here. We have one of the best motors Subaru has ever made under our hoods. People seem to equate better motor with being turbocharged, and that simply isn't the case.

Daily driving this thing since release, I'll have to disagree with you. This thing gives a new meaning to flat four

I'm surprised how many people complain about the engine after they bought the car. Do none of you do proper test drives or did you all hop on the band wagon?

What I found feasible and affordable with the FA20 to add the perfect amount of power is two simple things. Add the third one if you have the money and want the flexibility of fuel.

1. Upgrade the port injectors and fuel pump
2. Tune for E-85* and adjust the 91 tune for the new injectors
3. Add a flex-fuel kit to auto adjust (no laptop required to switch tunes).

I have a person here in Omaha that is running E85 and that was the only adjustment he did to his car (from what I could see). The car hauls ass and seems like the perfect balance too while maintaining the physics of the car and not requiring other performance parts.

*Depending if E85 is available for you

Not anymore if you buy a modern car, the turbos of today have such good cooling, usually coolant is routed through the turbo like on the new ecoboost motors and wrx and such through a water jacket or even ports routed through the turbo.

"Following a hot shutdown of a turbocharger, heat soak begins. This means that the heat in the head, exhaust manifold, and turbine housing finds it way to the turbo’s center housing, raising its temperature. These extreme temperatures in the center housing can result in oil coking.
To minimize the effects of heat soak-back, water-cooled center housings were introduced. These use coolant from the engine to act as a heat sink after engine shutdown, preventing the oil from coking. The water lines utilize a thermal siphon effect to reduce the peak heat soak-back temperature after key-off"

It honestly depends on the era of car, dare I say pre-2006? Also simple logic if you're constantly hitting boost don't go immediately turning it off, cool down a bit before your final destination by going slow.

Let me guess...Honda, Honda, Honda!
After reading all your other posts I am not convinced you have even driven one much less own it!
And no, I am not saying it is perfect or fast or anything like that so don't even bother with the "Fanboy" crap.

There is no current NA 4cyl that is as good as the fa20.

Lol. As have I good sir. The fact that you are displeased with the power output of an engine (which is putting out 100hp per liter) doesn't take away from the fact that it is the best 4-cylinder Subaru has ever build. It very well may be the best 4-cylinder on the market today. Take a look at how it's put together, how it is holding up, and what it has been shown to be capable of. Perhaps you feel it is a bad pairing for the frame in which it sits? And maybe so, but that has nothing to do with the engine itself being "decent."

But that doesn't mean it's a great motor either, especially when it's not as if all of Subarus prior engines were class-leading or cutting-edge.

Not to take anything away from the FA20. It's good but don't make it out to be the greatest engine ever made.

No one said the fa20 is the greatest. But tons of fanboys make it sound like its the worst thing ever.

But fail to mention they are comparing it to engines that have decades of research and development over the fa20.

I replied to a member claiming the FA20 wasn't decent. It certainly isn't the best 4 banger ever produced, but it is a badass piece of engineering in its own right.

If you are countering my comment above yours then I agree with you 100%!!!!
My statement was a simple sarcastic slam at all those that keep saying that all our engines are going to blow up because they are so cheaply made, Toyota doesn't care, it is a plot to get more money out of us, etc, etc.
I think it is one of the nicest engines out there (in it's intended class).

2015 GTI: 6.7 s
Hyundai Genesis 2.0T R-Spec: 6.7 s

Even with small factory turbos, none of the turbo 2.0L cars spool quickly enough to beat the Camry in that scenario.

The V6 pony cars run about even with the Camry.

You really need to step up to a V8 Mustang/Camaro/Chally to put some distance on a V6 Camry in that scenario.
Where the fuck did you get those numbers from?

2015 Camry V6: 5.8 seconds
2015 WRX: 4.8-5.5 seconds
2015 GTI: 5.9 seconds
2013 Hyundai Genesis 2.0T R-Spec:5.9

I really wish I knew where you made those numbers up I found these times on carandriver, motortrend and autoblog. The camry is still essentially the fast but your stats aren't legitimate
