This is what I'm working on right now. I found some light, easy to work with wood to make a box to attach an LED strip to the headliner in a way that is easy to remove. Here is my progress: I got an 18" LED strip from Super Bright LEDs and the wood from Michael's. I still need to add a piece to the back to attach it to the headliner, sand, and paint. Also, I've tested it, and the new third brake light will be unnoticeable from the rear-view mirror. Here's a picture of me holding the light where it will end up: I also intend to strip the carpet from the rear deck, fill in the holes where the brake light was, and re-cover it so it looks factory. I'll post the final results in a new thread with a little more detail (removing panels, running the wires, etc.) when I'm finished. Hopefully soon. |

For those wondering why the third brake light is raised, there are laws that regulate how high that light must be placed, both in relation to the ground and the overall height of the car. Since our cars are low, that central light has to be placed relatively high, which is why it is raised above the liner.
Just an FYI.

could you post some day shots? i've got my own ideas on how to accomplish it, but curious how you went about it.. also, is it too much to ask about what parts you used (i'm planning on using philips lumiled superflux's, or bivar plcc2 led's)?

Well I can't be left out... I mounted mine yesterday before painting (I was excited). I have a few modifications to make but I love it. Still planning a DIY (next week most likely).
