Yes.

To do it right you will spend easily $20k bringing you almost to the point of just buying the Alfa 4C.

Crawford Turbo Kit advertising 430 horses on pump gas ~$7k
Built Crawford Short Block ~$5k
Installation kit ~$500 + whatever else wasn't thought of
Tires and wheels to lay the power down at least $2k if not more, not to mention replacements as you run the car hard.
Axles that can take the power $1k
Clutch >$500
Suspension ~$1k
Big Brake Kit to dump the speed due to your much stickier tires $2k
Any other goodies like sway bars and lighter seats and blah blah blah
Labor ???

All that and you'll have a Toyobaru with a better power to weight than the Alfa, you'll still be heavier and have a longer wheelbase with a less performance optimized weight distribution so with comparable rubber the Alfa will still be faster in the corners and will still beat you around certain courses, you'll be driving the Toyobaru like a muscle car waiting for the straights to pull away. Realize now that with your heavily modified whip you cannot expect the same reliability, you will always have to be vigilant of potential catastrophic failure since you're running this thing to the limit. Not to mention the hit to fuel economy whereas the Alfa 4C has better fuel economy than a stock AT Toyobaru.

If you want car A to perform like car B, just cut to the chase and buy car B or at least something intended to mimic car B (kit car).

And this begs the question I have said before. When does an FRS/BRZ stop being an FRS/BRZ?
When you have moded every conceivable engine and power train part so far beyond stock does it really qualify as a twin anymore?

I think this is also more than expected when you buy any Alfa Romeo.

What if you like the performance of car B but it's just butt ugly like the 4C and you'd rather be driving something that performed as well but wasn't hideous?

Assuming you buy a BRZ for 30k and are comparing it to the $53900 4c you could do 24k worth of mods to the BRZ of course it would be faster lmao
And also a note at that point I feel the car wouldn't be anywhere near as reliable or have the longevity of the 4c

You'd be better of just buying a faster car...

I wouldn't call 4C ugly, sat in it once in a car show and car looks and feels amazing in the inside. More like an Elise. You got that race car feeling. Too bad it's too expensive.

Back to OP: Save your money, you better stick with 370Z or used Cayman if you are looking for good performance and looks.

You find Car B's actual competitors.

It's easier to get your hands on a Lotus than an Alfa anyway.

Eh, it won't rust and the engine is slated to be in their big selling sedan, Fiat of today is not the Fiat that left North America 30 years ago.

I'd trust an Alfa over a boosted Toyobaru any day of the week, but then again I don't see tinkering as a bad thing.

It may be great to drive, but that front end is hideous. It looks like an arachnid, a toad, an owl and a Fisker Karma had an orgy and somehow produced offspring with a beak and a mustache.

I love driving my car, but I also really like the looks of it. I would probably love driving a 4C, but I think I would be embarrassed to be seen in it in public.

A much better solution.

They may be better than 30 years ago but they are still one of the most unreliable manufacturer in the world.. or at least in the Europe.

For example check this list and you can find almost all Fiat models from the end of the list (and Alfa Romeo right before those).

http://www.anusedcar.com/index.php/t...e/2013-2-3/309

Fiat's warranty for rusting in Finland is 8 years, for Subaru and Toyota it is 12 years.
