Sort of both. It's a band-aid/partial fix and a failsafe if you will..... Even with an amazing oiling system an accusump can be useful and provide a safety net for say long/short duration's of potential oil starvation that may occur in long high G corners. It's just an accumulator that kicks in extra oil/pressure when there is a pressure/flow drop.

so does using heavier oil help with oil pressures to a certain temperature? As much as I hate reading these posts, its good information to prevent catastrophic failure.

When I read posts about engines blowing up just cruising and not hitting boost, is that because the weak points were at breaking point? I can understand the engine failures from tracking/dyno/racing etc, but for the engine to fail while cruising (no boost) and checking AFR levels, that is what scares me.

Engines can be replaced, but blowing up on public road on a free way doesn't sound too fun.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but based on all this thread and numerous other ones on these forums it seems that the AVO kit is quite proven. I haven't read of anybody having issues with the kit paired with a good tune.

The less power you make the less stress on the engine. Avo kits aren't known for producing big numbers so hence the reliability.

It might not blow your motor, but there are plenty of issues with the kit.

Most revolve around the manifold and exhaust leaks.
