Trying to figure out leg/foot placement to learn proper downshift. Problem is that my upper thigh touches the bottom of the steering wheel. The wheel is all the way up...seat all the way back. I can't seem to get my leg rotated/shifted properly.

Any advice from other long legged drivers ? Or am I basically screwed ?

Play around with how you're positioning your foot on the brake pedal. Myself, I place the ball of my foot (as opposed to my "toe") on the brake to hit the accelerator comfortably square on my heel.

I'm assuming you've also adjusted the height of the seat to the lowest as well since your quad is hitting wheel?

I don't use my actual heel. Just the right side of my foot while my toe is on the brake pedal.

No room to rotate my whole size 13 foot like that.

Yepp, what @murdoc said... I dont really rotate, its more like a pivot

+1 For non-emergency stuff, I've got the ball and big toe on the brake and I just roll my ankle over to give a quick jab with the right side of my foot. Not as effective for the emergency stuff for me though, especially in my steel toes.

?? I guess I was not aware that the BRZ seat could lower any further?... seems like my butt is already on the road ! Need to read the owners book again.

Based on the comments, seems like I need to fidget around the seat until I get a good geometry that works for me. Wearing running shoes seems to be bad, since the ball of my foot feels awful when applying pressure. Thanks for the assistance

Yep. 6'5" with size 13 shoe: I've learned to roll my right foot to blip the throttle on pretty much any vehicle I'm driving, there really isn't much room for anything else.

You won't have to lift your leg as much since the gas pedal is extended closer to the brake pedal..

Heel and toe is a very old misnomer back from the days when gas pedal was on the left and brake on the right.

Anybody attempting to do an 'actual' heel and toe is, well, not doing it correctly.

Find a place on the brake pedal that you are comfortable with as part of your foot hangs over.
Rotate slightly.
Blip.
Slam into gear
Repeat
