I get it exactly at 69-71 MPH. It is like a low pitched rumble noise from the back end.

Took my FRS to the shop for this and after a week and a half dealer calls me back and explains that there is nothing they can do to fix the issue. Although they would explain to me exactly what the issue is. Will post what I find out in the morn.

i noticed it only happens at part throttle, basiclly jus enough to maintain speed. its the way the gears are meshing in the diff thats causing the noise. maybe its the engineering specs of them, the preload or the angle of the gears but i belive theyre too loose and the teeth slap back and forth to create this noise. anyone with a cusco final notice if the noise left??

I'm thinking it could be cured if the diff is opened up and the backlash adjusted. It's probably a gear tooth spacing problem at the root, since that's the kind of thing that would have a natural variance out of the factory.

I would flip out if this happened on a brand new car. On my car its a loud howling noise, it makes the car sound really ghetto, and it's really embarrassing.

I wonder if I have this issue, but with my Perrin non-resonated CBE I'll never be able to tell. Anyone get any more answers?

Coming in late to this thread, but I have been experiencing some strange noise coming from my car lately as well. I notice that only when the car is at full temp, or has been driving around long enough to get hot, that there is also a bad wheel bearing noise coming from the center, or mostly rear of the car. I notice it only on light throttle especially around the 3200-3500 rpm range. Mainly if I bring it up to that RPM in second gear and just hold a constant speed, its pretty dang loud, or decelerating off of the freeway and downshift its loud. Under load it is quite, and if I put the car in neutral while rolling its quiet. I do have an aftermarket header and exhaust. I thought for a while that something was just rubbing. But im just not sure that's the case. I put it on the hoist today at a buddys shop, and everything looks good. I'm starting to worry now...

heh, same here
after the whiteline tranny, subframe, and diff bushings have these 3 noises together:
- bad wheel bearing at 30-70 (that's the cycling noise)
- high pitch whining
- low pitch kind of grinding
I don't mind the latter two but the 'bad wheel bearing' is really annoying

Yes, the noise is taking away the fun of driving the car. Im starting to dread driving because I know the noise is coming...

OK I"m not crazy about hearing the drone/whine at 70. We got our BRZ about two weeks ago. I noticed it a time or two after driving on the highway. Our daily commute is 30 minutes of highway driving each way so I will be telling the dealer about it.
