Massachusetts. Our auto insurance market is pretty weird though. Stuff that applies in other states sometimes doesn't apply here.

That could be right. My office is licensed in 45 or 46 (I can't remember the exact number) states, so we're familiar with a lot, but Massachussetts is one of the four or five that we're not licensed in... partially because the insurance licensing is pricey there, plus it's one of the states with unusual regulations.

That is something completely different from medical payments.
I misread your uninsured motorist line. Bodily injury was what I meant.

Yeah I checked - looks like I do 500/500. Can you elaborate on the misconception?

It varies from company to company (depending on their underwriting guidelines) but also from state to state (depending on certain thresholds for what they consider a chargeable accident).

If we're talking about comprehensive claims, they generally don't have an effect on your rates (since it's an incident that you didn't really have control over, contrasting to an at-fault accident that resulted from driver error), unless you make a ton of huge comprehensive claims over $1,000.

If we're talking about collision claims, it depends on the payout of the company. Again, it varies from state to state, but as an example, in California, accidents with payouts below $750 are non-chargeable accidents, meaning they'll show up on your record but likely won't have any effect since the damage was minimal. (I'm pretty certain that amount is based on what the insurance company paid, as opposed to the total amount of damage, so it doesn't include your deductible.) And for 2012 onward, California even changed the threshold to $1,000. Different states have different rules, but they are usually set amounts where a company has a surcharge for that accident. I remember North Carolina having three thresholds ($0-1800, $1801-2999, then $3000+) to determine what effect it has. But with some companies, as an insurance agent when quoting new business, you can document the accident, but they ask for the exact payout. But it's usually not a sliding scale, it's typically just it being one thing if it's less than one amount, or another thing if it's greater than that amount.

I got my BRZ fully covered $850 a year. I'm 21, haven't had a wreck since I was 16, and we have all cars and bikes under them I was pretty happy. When I called to get the quote before I ordered my car he had never heard of it so I told him its just a little 2.0 flat4 and told him I was getting limited not premium. he looked up and said this car is a flat4? It was pretty funny, he has no idea what he is getting into.

But the problem is that while they have "no idea," that may not be the case in a year from now. Just ask all of the original WRX owners what happened to their insurance rates after the first renewal or two.

I'm definitely expecting the insurance to shoot up a bit after the first year once the insurance companies can compile all sorts of data on the car.

Yup. Or all the Evo owners when the VIII first came stateside.

What is that? An AWD sedan with a four-cylinder? Shouldn't be too much...

Flash forward a year later after all the stolen seats, wrecked cars, and other shenanigans and you have

This car being a 2+2 Scion coupe with RWD means it already has a lot stacked against it in terms of insurance red flags...

Except for the Evo, it wasn't that drastic of a change, especially since it wasn't that long after the Eclipse GS/RS/GS-T/GSX models that had been raced out even prior to The Fast and the Furious, plus the WRX had already been out long enough, so insurance companies were catching on with the AWD turbo sedans. Originally, it was still a little on the high side, but at launch, it was generally less expensive to insure than the STI, likely due to the solid numbers... the first U.S. Evos had a 2.0-liter with 271 hp while the STI had a 2.5-liter with 300 hp. But like you said, as time goes by, the entire Impreza lineup had good crash ratings while the Lancer lineup (which didn't exactly apply to the Evo since it had different crash beams and what not but the ratings were basically used for every model, if I remember correctly) didn't get the best side impact ratings, so the Evo ended up being more expensive to insure. For those in the know, insurance companies rate cars based on a variety of factors, and the Evos (pre-2011, before they changed the numbering system) were 26h for the most part, though they were originally lower than that, something like 23h or 24h. I think out of commonly rated cars (which doesn't include supercars or exotics), only the crazier AMGs were higher than 26 (and got a 27p rating or something like that), while even M3s and M5s were rated a little lower, maybe 24h or 25h. I can't remember but I can look it up when I get to work.

Not only that, but like I said, insurance companies catch on. On the Scion side, they know that a lot of owners are in the demographic that is statistically most likely to be involved in an accident. On the Subaru side, companies know that over the past ten years, Subaru has made some cars that, while safe (in terms of crash ratings and such), are more performance oriented and may be driven in such a manner, so they're a little more cautious with new models and don't just take them at face value.

All, you might be able to use the VIN below. I saw a BRZ today at a dealership in my area. It appears to be a full VIN.

Yeah, I was seriously underwhelmed... I'm strongly starting to consider cancelling my order. Granted, I did order the Limited and not the Premium so it will be somewhat nicer, but I was disappointed.
