Why buy a catless front pipe?

I just ordered myself a Invidia N1 Catback. I was going to order a catless, non resonated front pipe to supplement the catback, but before I do, I've got a question.

*Not trying to patronize exhaust companies, it is a sincere question*

Why would I buy this,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Invidia-Catl...item2332a6e190

When I could just have a exhaust shop weld in any size pipe I wanted for about $60?

It's not permanent.

a good catless frontpipe gave you a good sounds to the car, but also check with your state, some states requires annually emission test, like DEQ for some states. catless frontpipe has big change that fails on the emission test. just my 2 cents.

Well yea, here is CA it is illegal to get rid of a CAT. But I can make it look like I have a cat if anyone looks under the car.

I believe that the stock is made from aluminized steel. My question really boils down to the performance difference between aluminized steel and stainless, if any.

Here in Los Angeles, we don't really deal with rust.

It's diameter, not material. The difference in surface roughness (boundary layer related) is going to be extremely negligible when all else is equal.

Please let's not turn this into a "you should get this" thread.

That's what I assumed, I figured it would be much more sensible for me to spend $45, get 2 flanges and 2.5" tubing. Could easily make a bolt on kit. At least to first determine if it is something I want or not moving foward.

If you take both cats out it's going to be very raspy and stink like hell. Plus it's going to be very very loud, especially with an N1 catback. I would leave at least one cat in place to help correct those issues. Probably the front pipe cat, because quality catted headers are few and far between. And more expensive.

nope not both cats! Well I am going to be leaving the headers stock for a while. Maybe this will just be DIY project that I end up selling if it's too loud for where I am in southern cal.

Since Boredom.is.me gave me the answer I was looking for, I am going to build 1 and hear how loud it is before and after. If it's too loud for daily driving, Ill just keep it on the side for "off-road" use. I'll make a DIY post when i'm doing it. I believe it will cost me $40.

I don't mind it but if I get the headers I might end up swapping out the front pipe.
