Front plate - Ohio

Did you guys drill to get the plate in or just buy a mount or something?

Do you guys like taking off the plate every time you get out of the vehicle?

I didn't drill holes. The Grimmspeed bracket uses the tow hook port and allows a lot of adjustability. If Ohio does away with the front plate requirement, it all can disappear without a trace. And, if you are so inclined, you can remove the plate and bracket entirely for a car meet, replace the port cover, and it's back to new again.

i dislike the front plate mount on the oem bumper but the grimmspeed is a good alternative. the ticket price for no front plate is 130. trust me, you dont want to waste money on this ticket lol. I wish they get rid of this law already, the car looks so much better without it.

Mine has the holes drilled, but I took the bracket off.

In 9 years I've never been hassled for no front plate in Ohio.

I just moved to Michigan though, so no worries here :o

In my last car I got pulled over twice for no front plate. I got the Grimspeed one and put a 1 inch hole in the tow hook cover. I removed the stock center plate holder and now I have two holes where the last owner screwed right in to the bumper. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do about the two holes in the mustache now.

Funny you bring this up, I was just bitching to my wife today about all the cars I see in town with no front plate and how I was pulled over a block from my house just because no front plate. No ticket just a warning. The cop looked like he was about 16 years old, I think he just wanted to check out the car. When I had them put the rear spoiler on I had the dealer go ahead and install the front plate holder that came with the car when I bought it it Chicago. No big deal, actually looks alright.

I don't run one and have not had a problem yet. When I bought the car I told them the deal was off if they put a dealer sticker on or drilled the bumper...

Delaying...Hopefully Avoiding?!?

My new '15 BRZ is not yet 3 weeks old as I post this. Fortunately, the dealer did not drill holes on the front of my car and simply tossed the bracket in the trunk. I live in the SW corner of Ohio, so there's a lot of IN & KY cars around, so I am hoping (as I've heard around town) that the police aren't too vigilant about enforcing this ridiculous OH law. So for now (at least while the car is so new), I simply have the front plate on the backseat floor and, if challenged, plan to tell any inquiring officer that the car's new, the dealer did not install the bracket and I hadn't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully that'll fly.

BUT I also picked up a Grimmspeed mount that my salesman got cheap from another customer that no longer needed it. I will NEVER drill holes in that bumper!

So as you can see, I'm covering all my bases in hopes that the law gets changed soon. I keep hearing it will, but that's been for years now. But for now, I'll keep dancing that line of irresponsibility / 'breaking the law' and live with the ticket risk. I actually got pulled over a week after having the car by a police officer that was coming towards me and did a U-turn to get me (supposedly 52 in a 35...I was trying to get used to shifting after 30 years of owning an automatic and was, for better or worse, more preoccupied with the tach than I was the speedometer). Chatted with the officer for 10 minutes about the car itself before getting a speed warning rather than a ticket...I honestly think they were more interested in seeing the gleaming Series.Blue up close more than upholding the letter of the law! Not having a front plate on didn't even come up...

Oh yeah...I stumbled upon an awesome thread in another area of the 'big' forum about mounting the front license plate & bracket with rare earth magnets! I wish I'd seen that before I bought the Grimmspeed mount...consider checking that out!

I'm a huge fan of the Skene Designs bracket. Two small holds drilled underneath the bumper so in the event Ohio changes their mind I can be (visible) hole free. Something about the offset plate brackets bug me but I didn't want to run the OEM bracket with two huge holes.

I used this method. Took about 2 hours including drying time for the epoxy i used for the magnets. The magnets are really strong too. Easy to take off for hard parking.
