Most of the weight is from the T56, which is towards the center of the car anyway if you place it right.

Don't think it would still run and not have oil all over under it leaving milky oil in the pan if it was windowed.

Decided to let the dealer puck it up after talking to the service manager I know and being up front. Because there is a tsb for the codes I have we shall see what happens.

As for LS1 vs LS3 the LS Series are all Aluminium. There are the LQ Series which are normally Iron but I do believe they can be found in Aluminium occasionally (Escalades) the 5.3 comes in both but that's not an LS1. They are all VERY similar and share/swap parts but I would be using the smaller 5.7L LS1 and it is all aluminium. Looks like I might just put some serious thought into selling my turbo kit and doing this...

@FullBlown do you guys have another bearing option other than new OEM bearings?

Pretty much everyone I see doing builds always have OEM bearings still and you would think this far in there would be something as simple as bearings...

Sorry to thread jack OP, but in my opinion, the LS1 will still have a relatively low center of gravity, being that it's push rod. Weight is just about where the FA20 + turbo kit would be. Like mentioned, most of the weight will be from the trans, which would be closer to center. I'll take a few more lbs in the center for a trans that can take a thrashing and not pop.

That's the Weapons Grade car/kit which is fairly well known at this point. A couple others have done them as well, there is a shop in Atlanta here who just built a supercharged LS2? drift car. Vorschlag is also making a LSx swap kit, but they aren't that far into development so it will be awhile.

I guess your options may change depending on what the damage actually was, the block could be fine for all you know at this point.

I don't think most people take into account the added weight of the transmission that you'll need too. Unless it'll be a highway puller or drag car, I'd rather stick with the FA20

500 ft pounds of torque at 1500rpm is pretty nice though. I don't think any fa20 has hit 500tq period.

That weight is with the transmission in it already, its a finished running car.
