My first dog turns 3 next week. She's like my daughter man I can't imagine how you must feel. I'd be so devastated if I lost her right now. Sorry for your loss.

I had to put down my old dog when I was 12... had her since I can remeber, he was the same age as me. Behind loosing my grandfather at 89, this was the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with.
@mike the snake, just know when you go into surgery she will be there wagging her tail by your side

Thanks everyone.

Lucy found me in 2000 at the age of 4, I assume someone abandoned her or something. The last 14 years she has had THE most spoiled, ideal, happy-go-lucky life a dog could ever dream of having.

The last 3 or 4 years she's been incontinent, and couldn't control her bowels, but I wasn't going to put her down because she was leaking. She was happy and pain free, and until recently she was just old and creaky and leaky. Carpets and back deck destroyed, and the house has smelled BAD, but those are easily replaced.

Recently she had serious trouble walking and getting up, she was in pain, it was time.

I'm actually OK, not too shook up, I had a long time to get ready for this.

I have 2 other dogs, Maggie, my epileptic mini mini schnauzer, and Skooter, my Jack Russell. Skooter is taking it the hardest. She and Lucy were best buds.

Sorry about your loss.
I have owned dogs all my life and butch the black labrador lasted here for 20yrs.
I am the dog whisperer around here - lost dogs find me and then i find their owners.
Basil the beagle owns me , for the time being.

Losing a pet sucks, they are family. I've had to go thru the process too many times, and miss them all. You had a good long time with Lucy, savor the memories, she will always be with you.
