I have broke two stock studs myself. Both drivers side front. Even @Guff broke two or 3 and he is completely stock. I keep extras in stock now. I torque down to 89

When you backed the nut off, it got caught in this rust and then "welded" the nut to the stud, forcing you to break the nut and stud off. Keep your threads clean and this shouldn't happen. Also try to switch to closed nuts. |

are you putting them on crooked?
you should be able to spin them on by hand all the way until they hit the wheel, then you snug them up with a 1/2" ratchet and then torque in sequence to 80ftlbs edit: or 75ftlbs, or 90ftlbs, or whatever you want to believe. I can't believe that you broke 4 studs in such a short time and there's not some element of user error here.

I had a stud shear off yesterday. Apparently the tuner lugs were loose though, so that may have been the cause.

Both times my lugs broke was with the factory lugs.

I'm using the same lugs on ARP lengthened studs without antiseize and haven't had any problems. My wheels are off every couple weeks at least, though.

ARP studs.
Track events once a month or more. Wheels swapped out about 2x per month. Open-ended lug nuts. A few long roadtrips across California and other places. Every time I change wheels, I wipe the studs clean. Been doing this since my S13 days, when I did the same thing every time I changed my wheels out (Nismo extended studs). No issues with my ARP studs after about 6 months. Close to 10k miles on the car in that timeframe. -alex |
