Fog Light help
Hello FT86Club
I recently installed OEM fog light's on to my FR-S. I used 2 install guides, one for the fog light stalk install and the other for the fog light install. Fog light install - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49723 Stalk - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=848423 How I spliced/tapped into the connectors - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...06&postcount=3 Following both guides very carefully, the fog light's still won't turn on. The stalk works just fine; signal, low beams and high beams still work properly. But still no luck on the fog light or even indicator on the dash. Here are a few pictures of the wires that I had to tap into. Stalk installed. Wires being tapped. , I also check the fuses, nothing was blown. I checked both fuses under the steering wheel and were not blown. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

I assume you're trying to turn the fog lights on with the head lights on, right? Just making sure since they'll only come on with the headlights and I was taught to start with the simplest questions first when diagnosing.
If you're doing that, the problem is at the stalk since the indicator light won't even work (will only work with fog switch on and headlights on). The output from the stalk goes to the computer which controls the output to the indicator on the dash and also to the relay which controls the fog. If you're not getting the indicator, I doubt you're getting any signal to the computer so you definitely won't be getting power to the relay and fogs. |

@speedrye
Would the indicator still turn on even though the fog light's won't turn on? I also thought this way would work since I "basically" the same install noz did. ( http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49723 ) |

Seems like you wired the correct wires. Check your wire taps again. For both the lights and indicator to not come on might just be that there might be no connection between the stock wire and the taps. And as posted above make sure low beam is on. The indicator will only turn on if low beam is on

It's because those wire tappers u have are worthless. They sent those with my buddy club tails. They don't make a good connection.I ended up having to go old school and splice and tape them. I hooked up my diode dynamic fog light kit today. t-tapper connectors work so much better than those kind.

The wires are so tiny they just slip Inbetween the part that is supposed to cut them.

I think that's very possible. People go both ways on this, but I avoid splice connectors and prefer to solder, even though I'm an amateur, at best. Did you strip the wire before applying the splice connector or count on it to pierce the coating? They're supposed to, but don't always.

On my last car, I used the taps for just about every aftermarket wiring connection without any major issues. On the BRZ, though, I didn't have much luck with taps when doing the boomerang DRL mod. I'll second @OURO3OROS's suggestion for solder + tape (or, better yet, heat shrink). Solder doesn't really leave any room for something to go amiss, and also means you won't have to worry about the connection rattling apart later on. Looks much cleaner, too.
