To answer your question, a decent after market 7" head unit will sound 10x better and wake wake up everything, especially the bass from your sub. For best results for the sub though, id recommend an aftermarket amp assuming they're just running it off the little stock amp. But that could require some wiring. But the point being, a new head unit will solve your problem.
