In the end I'd guess it'd be a lot easier and cheaper to start with an American model and prep it than import one of these cars and deal with that mess plus getting used to right hand drive. Just ask yourself, is the "JDM cool factor" really worth over $65,000 USD?
You live in Hokkaido, Japan so you should know STO follow JAF & FIA rules. Which means they're damn strict on safety rules & some of em are over qualify than SCCA/NASA safety

Actually I live in Hokkaido so I know absolutely nothing of sanctioning bodies, or civilization for that matter. I'll be sure to look into it.. right after my town decides to adopt flushing toilets. Good to hear though.

On the last ep of top gear, they talked bout trackday racing. It is supposed to be more exciting and cheaper than golf. They did point out that a rollrage is a requirement, so even if u intend to do some amateur racing, u will need a rollcage.

most sanctioned motorsports that have door to door competition, or to be more specific, instances when two or more drivers aggressively fight for a corner, roll cages are required because the chances of collision are very high.

other events, such as regular track days or sprint events that forbid corner entry competition and usually require point-by passing on straights (again, depending on the series) do not require roll cages.

Typically however, convertibles are required to have a roll-bar of some sort
