I feel as these cars begin to age it might be worth having a sticking on common areas to watch out for corrosion in? This is a good find. thank op.

It's so minor but worth noting for everyone especially if everyone's has had it so far. I'm lucky I even came across it.

I've been putting some Carpro Cquartz Dlux on the window trim.

Hopefully that protects things.

I have it and only 16000km on a 2014. It is minor but if it continues it's all the small spots that rust like this that will make the car look like shit.

It may be minor, but a car that's a year old or less should not have rusty body parts! Rust isn't going to just stop, it'll keep going.

I'm debating talking to the local dealer about it since my bad experience with them servicing my car. OTOH, if it does turn into a bigger issue, I don't want to have done something on my own (considering just putting a dab of rustoleum on it) and either mask it getting worse or have to fight them on a warranty claim because I tried to fix it.

My Xterra is nearly 15 and has only a few tiny rust spots where something chipped the paint off. This is the first thing I've found with my car that really has me concerned about it long term.

Yes, this fix should be covered under warranty. Keep in mind though, that even after you have it fixed, the rubber seal will continue to rub against the metal pillar and the paint will scratch off again. So if you drive your car during winter, make sure to wipe that area regularly so you don't have salt and moisture sitting on exposed metal.

Ideally Toyota comes out with a permanent fix for this problem as replacing the pillars+glass is not a long term solution.

I'll probably try to get this fixed during my next oil change. Yeah, it's minor, but it's not something that should be happening on a new car.

I performed the window freezing bulletin on my car. Replaced the master switch, sashes and window sill moulding. Windows no longer freeze over night and the squeaking when wet is completely gone.

I agree about a permanent solution because it's not just folks in the frozen salted areas. It's hardly rained here in Ca. I haven't taken mine in yet because a) I don't trust the local dealer's service dept and b) there's no permanent fix so I'd just be buying time. If they are rusty after just under a year, I'll wind up needing to keep redoing the fix.

Completely agreed. I only took mine in because the rust was pretty bad and unsightly on the drivers side. I am going to try and keep the area clean this year but I fear the rust returning.

I do think that if more people take their cars in to get this fixed Toyota will take notice and hopefully come up with a fix.

I may try the other nearby dealer to get it looked at. The problem is that it's close to home but in the opposite direction from work and a very small dealer. Hopefully they will have a time they can look at it when I'm able. I also have no idea of their experience on the 86.

For those of you who have had yours replaced, what is your plan to keep the rust from coming back?
