Just so you know... The frs is painted at the same place, with the same materials as the brz. Your paint is 100% Subaru, along with most of your car.

Dude, you're resting 2600lbs of car on 4 inches worth of metal on metal. What did you expect? It's paint man.

Honestly, unless a chip goes down to the metal, I don't really worry about it. I bought the car mostly because it's a joy to drive, paint be damned. If I had a show-car, maybe.

When the paint starts to look bad, I'll have a good body buy in town repaint the car. Maybe even go with a different color (though, I do like the Raven a lot).

It's not just Subaru - Toyota paint sucks too for chips. I notice it's become worse in the last 4 or 5 years even though it's all been water-based for quite a while now. I just think they are using thinner coats to save weight (and cost). Don't laugh about the weight, I was amazed how much it adds to the weight of the car. And every ounce they can save gives them better mileage numbers.

Here's some info from SEMA on paint today...

I guess considering where I live, PA, I have to deal with road salt and all, but I still would wash my car weekly to try to keep up with the weather factor... But hell, only a 2 year old car and I am finding rust formations.. Not happy.

I drive a Scion FRS by the way, so its not just Subaru.
Any pictures of these rust spots? I have had cars last more than 8 years of winter driving (lots of salt) without rust showing up on the body. Crazy to think that you are already having this problem after 2 years.

In regards to paint chips, I have a touch-up paint pen from the dealer and it has been put to good use for this car. It is really tricky to apply tho, because you can easily smear way too much paint or clear coat and make it look bad.

I was highly considering this, but not sure what it costs to get the entire car done. You have any idea?

With my contacts, I was able to secure the materials for $600, and the labor is free.

I think the average job costs somewhere in the 2k to 2500 margin.
