Sludge from gas pump?

Went to go for a fill at a local gas station and when I took the nozzle out, there were strings of a thick viscous amber fluid coming from it. It was oozing from the holes on the nozzle and all over the rubber cap.

Spoke to the manager over the phone and he didn't want to do shit. Which REALLY pissed me off. After a little pushing, he said he would pay for the cab since I'm only 1.5 miles away. Called my insurance company just in case and have two tow guys as witnesses that there was sludge present on the pump. No way I was going to drive the car with an unknown substance in the gas tank. Manager said he was going to get it analyzed tomorrow and we'll go from there. I took samples, but not sure whether or not I should have it towed to Subaru yet and the manager is being an asshole. I'm probably going to go to the gas station tomorrow morning since the manager said he's going to be there and get his insurance info.

I understand that this could be nothing or it could really fuck the engine.

Any ideas?

Hard to see in this photo because this was a few minutes after and it was upright in the pump, but it was literally oozing out of those holes when I took it out of the car. There's still a bit of it in the bottom left-most hole that you can kinda see, but the yellow green tint on the nozzle is also the fluid and not a reflection of anything.

Fluid is thick like molasses and while green in the pics, is really amber. Pics also aren't a great representation of scale. It's a lot more in person.

Diesel put into the wrong tank?

I wonder if Blackstone can analyze a sample for you to prove what it is.

Sounds like the gas station tank was low. They all have sludge at the bottom of the tanks no matter how clean they are.

Frankly, I'm surprised that it didn't happen to anyone else, but I guess not too many people use 93 there or they didn't notice.

Spoke to the manager this morning and he was MUCH nicer after he saw what was on the nozzle in person. I'm going to fill out an incident report and have the car towed to Subaru so they can drop and drain the tank if the test comes back with bad news since I can't leave the car where it is. If it's bad news, the gas station will pay for any and all damages. What a pain in the ass.

Considering how thick it is, I'm guessing that the tank will have to be dropped regardless of the test results because it could clog up the fuel filter.

Hess at the corner of Monvale Ave and Washington St in Woburn.

Went to fill out a report and corporate told the manager to tell me to basically screw off and call corporate if I have a problem. If I want the stuff tested, I have to call the state.

Waiting for AAA to get the car to the dealership right now and maybe they could do something in regards to testing.
