1:10 Mini Me...Wait another one?!?!

Guess who's back! Since the second body isn't exactly ruined (unlike the last one where I had to chop the trunk off to get the spoiler off), I'll still have a pretty body to bash. I have new wheels and rubber on the way. The rears will be here on Tuesday. The fronts are coming from Japan on the slow boat. The top peeve I had with the previous models is the paint. The first body was just the wrong color and flaked off (wrong paint type). The second body is missing that purple hue that the real Asphalts/DGM's have.

You can find all of the pictures from the older models in the thread link below.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ht=1%2F10+mini

The one main goal is to achieve a true replica model of the real thing. That means closer matched paint, a better light setup, 3D parts instead of stickers, and other little details that would be over looked.

I have not ordered the body yet. I get my paint with it and that is something I would like some opinions on. I mentioned above that the last model was missing the blue/purple hue that our dark greys have. You can see the paint process in this post. I think starting off with the smoke again is the right way, but it's everything after that I wouldn't mind some ideas on. Option 1 is to spray a light layer of translucent purple, similar to the smoke, before spraying the gunmetal. Option 2 is to spray a light layer of gunmetal, followed by a light layer of metallic purple (non translucent), followed by more gunmetal. Option 3 is to hold the metallic purple and gunmetal side by side. Should I even use purple? What about blue?

PS: Looking back at the other thread, I think I was a bit rude, harsh, or whatever else in some posts. It's not something I do on purpose but I apologize in advance if that pops up again.

New wheels son! I have a set of four, but I do not want the aggressive offset in the fronts. The wait for the slow boat from Japan and from China (tires) continues.

Pics

I do not think I will do the reverse lights.

I got a test piece done for the front light housing. It came out aight so I'll do the others soon. I will just paint the inside with a little more resin to seal it completely. Then the obvious interior chrome and exterior flat black paint.

I wish the front wheels where flatter. The fronts look like my real rears, and the rears look mad offset yo. I had to throw in a fresh slammed picture too.

I still have to clean up the front grill area. Normally that area is left uncut, but I wanted the texture of the real thing. I will just leave a lip around the edge to glue my 1:10 space invaders grill too. the upper 4" (0.4" or 10mm) even has the backing. Sadly, I can't do anything about the front plate mount, so I'll just work around it.

I made the exact license plate this time too. I'll have "BITE ME" in the front, which is what I would have my real plate be if I was FI.

3D Toyota and piston badges for the win!

The exhaust is made of three pieces: two tips and well, the rest. I hope it fits. Most RC "exhausts" are only tips attached to the body. I wanted the piping, slash cut rolled tips, and the muffler though. Mine will also mount to the chassis instead of the body.

The wipers were modeled to scale: 20", 22", and modeled wiper arms.

The 2" Perrin shorty antenna is there too.

I think that's everything to date. I made a bunch of duplicates just so I can choose which part I like most or as a safety since these are really small.

I wish I had my own printer. A quick google search will give you the answer. A magician never gives away his secrets that everyone knows about.

Thanks

I have some more stuff. I will ditch the molded reverse light housing for this. I also made the 3rd brake light housing. I also want to do some interior, but not sure how and how far to go.

You're going to need to hook a brother up.

It's an old pic of mine. I've since bastardized it and have been debating throwing a rocket bunny kit on it.

Planning on ordering another one today though. Probably going to do the same thing you did with the DIY lightbuckets.

As a kicker, mine is RWD.

Are y'all using the HPI bodies? I'm working on one right now.

*edit*
NVM, the 1 piece body with rear bumper looks like the Tamiya body?

Mine and Mandy's are both Tamiya bodies. There really is no substitute when it comes to scale looks.

I'm running an Eagle Racing R31-16FM. Here it is without the shell at my local drift track:

I agree. The only other GT86 body I would consider getting is the HKS Performer GT86, but it's a bit too wide for me. I'm going down to 0mm offset wheels, so I need the narrowest body I can get.
