Man I like running too so I can see how this would get me down as well. Hopefully someday you'll work yourself back into your hobby and to a BRZ/FRS. Good luck Maxim and get well soon.

Maxim, sorry to hear that. Did you hurt the springs at your ankle? Make sure you let it recover fully *before* you try anything harsh.

As to the car, you can still get AT if you want, but if you need to haul lots of stuff, moving to other car is still ok.

Thank you for the well wishes everyone...it really means a lot.

I've had more news (just an hour ago actually).

They had to fly me out to a different location for some more advanced imagery...which turned up something they weren't expecting.

I've got 2 ruptured discs in my lower back. They were both crushed, and pieces of them "squirted" out into the space where my nerve is, pinching it off pretty severely. Apparently it's really rare for somebody my age to have disc degeneration this severe.

The upside: They can insert a scope into the area and remove the destroyed portions of the disc without more invasive surgery.....which will release the pressure immediately.

They also don't think I damaged the nerve itself...only the myelin sheath...which can heal rapidly. The pain will go away immediately and the feeling may come back within a few weeks.

AND since the whole disc isn't being removed, I should heal very well, and they already told me as soon as the numbness is gone, I will be able to run again!

So....awesome news for me, and it means I'll still be able to get an FR-S/BRZ. I just need a month or two to recover.

The bad news: I won't be allowed to complete my deployment...I have 2 months left and I REALLY wanted to return to my unit and finish the fight so to speak.

Wow man. I'm glad there came some positive news that your nerves weren't permanently damaged and you can heal. Sorry you couldn't finish your deployment but I'm sure your unit is proud of you. Just keep the positive vibe and more good things will happen.

So glad to hear about the good news! I can speak for all of us when I say thank you for your service to this nation and to us, and I commend you for wanting to return to your unit. Good things will happen for people like you!

Thanks everyone! Really helps improve my mood. Can't tell you how much.

This is one of those life changing experiences....went from thinking I'd been permanently paralyzed to finding out I will have full functionality just with a little bit of permanent back pain (which I had before anyways).

I think I'm going to train up and compete in a triathalon....I can get in shape for the biking and swimming while I wait to make a full recovery so I can run.

Definitely hope I can meet some of you IRL once these cars are on the streets.....would be thrilled to do some friendly autocrossing with you guys....even the ones I've had arguments with.

Check out www.beginnertriathlete.com there's a wealth of information there. Also if you have any questions about getting into the sport definitely shoot me a PM.

Man you have no idea. It's terrifying. The numbness didn't set in till the second day....I woke up and was like....I can't feel my leg......and then I tried walking and everything from the waist down went numb for 5 minutes and THAT really scared the hell out of me.....I sat down about ready to cry and the feeling came back to everything except below the knee on my left side though so I didn't completely panic. And I can hobble along now without any extra bits going numb so apart from the pain and the numbness in my left leg, I'm good. And obviously I get the good stuff for the pain, so I'm kind of in a perpetual high. All things considered it could definitely be worse.

Doc says it was some kind of miracle that I had been hobbling my way around for 9 days with 2 shattered discs.

Maxim, it is indeed a good news that you did not hurt your nerve. Hope you get a *speedy* (with 200hp, 2700lb body fast) full recovery.
