Unfortunate

Well peeps, it's looking like I might not be getting a BRZ/FR-S.

A week and a half ago I was injured pretty badly (no I didn't get shot) and am currently unable to feel much of my left leg. I also can't bend much at the waist, and walking is hard since I have to be extra careful to put my left foot down evenly so I don't snap my ankle. I can walk though, which is good...it just feels like I'm walking on a prosthetic.

We'll see if it gets better, the doctors say there's a good chance I'll get back to about 90%, but I'm probably done running (which was a hobby of mine) and it's going to be a while before I can drive anything with a clutch. There will be SOME permanent nerve damage but they're not sure how much yet. They also said that the vertebrae in my lower back are going to start fusing themselves together, so surgury isn't needed (since the surgury is dangerous and all it would do is fuse the vertebrae which are already doing it on their own)

Since I'm going to have to change my work-out habits and several other things, a small sports car is looking less like an option, especially since I'm probably going to take up biking, which I can already do...the position on a bike is comfortable for me and I still have full strength in my legs...just missing some feeling.

So...it's looking like I might need to get a vehicle that supports that lifestyle. A wrangler or something that I can put a bunch of crap in and carry around a bike with.

Nothing's for certain though and I'm not gonna be making any purchases until I'm more fully recovered. Time will tell.

About seven years ago I was hit by a car while riding my bicycle and many doctors and physciatrists listed my injuries as permanently disabled.
But I have returned to work/drive a manual car and have won a 645km bicycle race since.
I still have some stiffnes and numb feeling, but exercise is the best treatment,so I drive manual cars , ride my bicycle and walk as much as possible.
Also saving to buy BRZ/ft86 six speed manual.
We need to decide in our own minds what we can/can't do and not let doctors/physciatrists decide for us!
Wish you a fast recovery
AC

I was going to recommend cycling. Good for you on keeping active. It's always depressing to see someone let an injury stop them.

I'm sorry to hear about the change in car plans. I'm sure a WRX hatch would work out well for you also.

Sorry to hear dude! I'm planning on stuffing my bike into the back of the BRZ. If it can fit four tires it will fit my roadie. If you still want the car go with an auto, I'm sure clicking down a couple gears on the highway will be just as fun with paddle shifters Best of luck with the recovery!

Like alan said, don't let the doctors dictate what you will/won't be able to do; stay active once you've recovered and keep using your leg and you may be closer to 100 than you realize. All the best wishes for a good speedy recovery bro.

Ouch man. This is the situation where an automatic BRZ/FR-S is acceptable though.

Good luck with the recovery and I hope that you fully recover.

Hope you feel better man. Think positive about the goals you want. Maybe the BRZ can still be that goal.
