Boost gauge error

I've always wondered why my car always seemed to make a bit less power than I expected at a given boost level. Of course it's only ever been on mustang dynos (which I very much prefer over a dynojet), but even then things seemed a little off.

Turns out my $100 prosport boost gauge is quite optimistic (go figure!). I actually checked it against a log today and found that when the gauge reads a bit above 10psi, my actual boost pressure read from the map sensor is 8.5. At 12psi on the gauge it's 9.5, so it gets worse as it goes up.

So I guess the moral of the story is to not trust your boost gauge until you've confirmed it with a log. Especially if it only cost $100 .

FWIW i think prosport gauges are calibrated at 1000ft, which may account for some of the error.

All my old Prosport gauges (3 boost gauges, because the senders kept breaking; 2 exhaust temp gauges, same thing; 1 oil pressure gauge I couldn't trust the readings) in my WRX were garbage. I would not recommend their stuff to even my worst enemy.

Defi all day, every day.

I see a lot of guys with these gauges. I myself have one analog boost gauge sitting in a box on my desk, lol. It was for a previous project, but I was contemplating to put it in the brz. might just sell it now.

I've been looking into PLX Devices, maybe check them out. Haven't read anything bad about them.

Prosport gauge really bro? You have been hanging out with WRX/STI owners too much.
