I was under the impression that the FRS didn't have an alarm save for the panic button on the keyfab.

Well, DARN ..... that is a tough break .....

However, I reckon most of us have had something stolen from our cars at one time or another. Just chalk it up to one of life's lessons and move forward ....

IIRC, FR-S doesn't have a security system stock, just an engine immobilizer.

It seems to me, in the USA, that theft is essentially legal. I've spoken with different officers on the subject and the stark reality is that if guns/drugs/violence isn't part of the equation it's not much of a priority, very little in fact. The reason I got, "That's why you have insurance."

So basically, theft is *almost* legal...because insurance. It's a damn shame.

Well, you put it that way, everything is legal until you get caught. It sucks, but there isn't really the manpower to start a hunt out for everything that everyone reports stolen.

Anyway, don't worry OP. Insurance will take care of you. And just think.. Somewhere the thief is searching the internet and will come across an article and say "Seriously?! Prius tires?! GODDAMMIT!"

Joke's on him.

God has a place for the people who took your wheels... They'll get what they deserve one way or another!

Did you file a police report yet? That's the first thing you should do.

It would most likely be comprehensive insurance to repair the damage on the car. I don't know about the inside stuff...

I'm sorry to hear about that man - sucks that we have to share this planet with some real scum like that. Any chance you can get footage from that camera you parked under - or did it not record anything?

You know, I just happen to have a set of stock wheels and tires sitting in my spare bedroom. I'd be down to sell but you're in Canada so the price for shipping might not be worth it.

sorry to hear about that man. Sucks that thieves have no respect for other people's stuff. Try to get security footage from the garage if you can.

Theft of car parts belonging to an insured car are covered by the theft coverage on the car insurance policy. So is the damage to the door where entry was gained. Only one deductible will be charged as all loss resulted from the one incident.

If you thought to do it you would normally have bought a depreciation waiver coverage for the first two years of insurance on a new car, highly recommended. If so then new replacement parts must be supplied by the insurer.

In any event, the insurer must make good the loss and only Scion can supply replacements for the four stock wheels. Michelin supplies replacement tires. Depreciation deduction on the tires will depend on actual odometer mileage and should be close to zero.

You did nothing wrong. Thieves are everywhere. Police can only usefully address repeat or pattern thefts, random break ins are practically impossible to successfully investigate. Always report theft though because police do maintain the record and do process the record to determine patterns. Theft is investigated and if successful, prosecuted. Just because it is difficult to succeed doesn't mean the police do nothing. They investigate everything, according to the resources they have and the evidence they can gather.

Finally, they were after the wheels.....nobody wants these tires!
