ECUTek Think Tank

I for one am going to begin with a custom map for knock detection.

After thoroughly reading the amazing PDF files.

I think it would be best to use something like the analog speed gauge. Someone had mentioned using the speedometer as a boost gauge as well.

Lets get down to business.

The analog speed gauge?

How so?

No idea, Thats why im reading.

There has to be a method, speed gauge aside, to bring an active knock count or warning to the drivers visual.

Let's say you could..Why analog and not the digital?

Wouldn't a blinking CEL work just fine?

Well, that is another option of course!

I'm thinking in respect to the most useless alerts and gauges we have that we wouldn't miss on a daily basis.

A great deal of folks have voiced thier dislike for the analog gauge, so thats my first go to for a few reasons.

The analog gauge if we were able to open it up, would give a scale, every 10th would be a 1. so 10 kph would be 1 count, 20 kph would be 2 count. All the way to 26.

This could work as both a knock counter, and perhaps switchable to a boost gauge, as someone had already mentioned in a previous post I cannot seem to find right now. Acting as a boost gauge would provide a very accurate scale say if you specifically wanted 8.5psi. simply scale it so the gauge would then read 85kmh, or mph. As we know the ECU reads a MAP sensor, thats a good start in creating a table.

I think a flashing CEL would be the easiest one to make a map for, maybe, CEL comes on solid for anything under 3-5 counts, and flashes above 5 counts. That would give a little more information back to the person tuning. Not every tank of gas is the same either. Around here we have "winter gas", meaning the octane levels can vary. Having an active alert for the daily driver would be a great "oh shit" warning to back off and start logging to find out whats going on.

But like you had mentioned, using the digital gauge would also work great too, Just would lose the better half of monitoring your speed is all.

The ones I had downloaded this morning with the AppDownloader, and there is a good video on the ECUTek website about the boost controller maps and traction control maps. The more you dig, the more information seems to come out.

i'll have a screencast on setting up an overboost fuel cut with custom maps here shortly.. once i'm done testing and confirming it's all good to go. next after that is innovate sensor input, then gear-based boost control with a tactrix 3-port.

i think the cel flashing is ideal to knock detection... but we gotta find some use for the damn analog speedo.

How I do it

X - Manifold
Y - Engine Speed
Output- MULTIPLY Fuel Volume

Setup the 3D table with 1 and one colum with 0s

Far right 2 cells on the x-axis is 1.69 & 1.7 (its absolute)

Then I set a activation with a threshold and delay

Activation is manifold

Threshold is 1.70/1.69

Delay 1 second

I set CEL ON when table is activated.

This is very cool.

One thing I noticed: Is the 'Fuel Injection Ratio Port to Direct' map missing from the basic retail version? Not finding it in any of the map categories.
