Note: Car speedometers will almost always read high, particularly at higher speeds. +5% is normal.
Motorcycle speedos will generally read higher still, by 10% or even more. Yamaha has even had optimistic tachometers, 06 R6 tach showed 17.5k redline, corresponded to 16.2k actual revs!

Some of you guys might wanna check speedo vs. GPS...

I'd bet money that the two 180+ R6s were nowhere near that speed.

My Tiburon's speedometer is accurate at 140+ according to GPS. Down to 1mph increments.

I'll just say that some evidence is necessary for a reasonable person to believe extraordinary claims.
Whether it's a 183mph R6 or a 140mph Tib :p

EDIT: Oh shit, I just realized he did say R6. I read it as R1. Yeah, that's pretty damn fast for a 600. And about my car, keep in mind it's 9 years old now and has been sitting up for 6 months, so it may not be able to do what it used to. We shall see though. I'm actually curious now.

Hah, I wish my speedo read only 5% higher. Try 11%, the ECU even knows it's doing that much under the speedo reading.

It does make you drive slower though, because you see the "75" after flooring it and go "crap I'm speeding" before you realize you're only a hair over.

"Only" 130mph in my A3 2.0T while driving to Vegas. Had to slow down due to traffic. I think 130 was the top speed of the stock A3, but mine is Stage 1 with an intake and was still pulling when I hit that speed.

Also for what it's worth, I was a passenger in an early model Prius that maxed out at 107mph on the interstate LOL.

Yeah I don't see an R6's ever hitting 186, when stock that bike is good for a buck 60 at best, so assuming you didn't just drive it off a cliff, its seriously modded lol

The R1 on the other hand... thats a scary fucking bike

I new a guy in my neighborhood who died while riding it, he all ways gave me the thumbs up when he pulled into our court, R.I.P.

Generally the fastest car is decided by 0-100-0 time.

In 2003...the "top bike" was the Suzuki GXR 1000. It could do 9.85 1/4 mile...stock.

You can get an unmolested, used GXR 1000 or R1 or w/e for less than 5k if you are patient.

For me now...I ride a Yamaha Road Warrior. It is more of a 1700cc Hot Rod.

All of the big 4 (Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki) are all awesome. Pick the bike that physically fits you.

Some are made for taller riders. Some are made for guys with long torsos. Some are made for guys with long arms...etc etc.

All are amazing.

Ask Anthony, he has an R6. I promise no matter how much money he drops into his FR-S...it will never touch the performance of his R6.

That being said, save your money, pay off one toy before buying the next one.

Once my BRZ is paid for, I may look into getting a second bike (unsure if I will go dirt bike or sports bike).

To be perfectly honest, a Sport Bike is literally the only toy my wife does not want me having...I lose my damn mind when I get on one.

One blip of the throttle and you are well into the triple digits.

Oh one other thing...

Once you buy a bike...it becomes your Baby.

I really really really like my BRZ.

I LOVE my Road Warrior.

Trust me, i know to many people who have died on them I wanna ride with a riding buddy mainly just to get the who "experience"

....That being said I know myself to well, and I'm going to want to do mach 5 runs at 2:00am at some point, just gotta be careful.

My dream bikes are a 1199 Panigale & A 675 Triumph Daytona.... the latter is lightweight, PLENTY of go, and it i love that damn 3 cylinder noise

The Panigale is going to have to wait until I make a shit ton of money financially and I'm a good enough rider to handle a bike the pulls like Busa's and ZX14's, but can be thrown around like a 600

Family friend lost it on the street riding his R1...hit some gravel and the rest is as we say "history." Punctured lung, multiple broken ribs, chest tube etc.. He's lucky to be alive considering his speed (150MPH+)

Yeah one of my neighbors was not so lucky..... Also riding an R1 (that bike is seriously od in terms of speed), triple digits, guy jumped out in front him in an SUV, he swerved straight into the gaurdrail/light post.... needless to say the light post won...

The how fast these things can get to speed is really unreal, and unlike a car, there is quite literally zero margin for error. Imho if you want a bike (and want to drive it the way it's meant to driven) you have to have that mind set 24/7. I.e... I'f I screw up it's GG, so you'd go the extra extra extra mile to ensure you own safety along with anyone else around you

This is assuming your perfect..... unfortunately the other drivers around aren't. The worst incident (or rather after math) I saw of that was when a Corvette ran over a guy on a bike. Supposedly the Vette hit they guy going 100+, dragged the bike (and rider) underneath it for 200m+ and came to a halt near the I-108 & I-175 intersection..... needless to say the rider didn't survive that

An S1000RR has 943 bhp/tonne and maxes its speed in under 20 seconds.

173 (calculated) in a 92 fox body mustang and 176 on a heavily modded gsxr 600. The fox was definitely a lot scarier than the bike.

Standard GPS doesn't have very good resolution when you approach 200mph (297 fps). With a standard sample rate of 1Hz, you're only getting about one sample every football field. There are 10Hz GPS units that help with this.

My personal best 198.1mph in a standing mile (avg over 132ft), and cracked 200 on the GPS prior to shutdown. So, been over 200, but still trying to reduce the amount of time it takes to get there.
