Once you get rid of smell the easiest thing to do is to turn off the A/C about 2-3 minutes before you get home and turn the fan to high. You can also turn heat on to aid in drying out the evaporator before shutting off the car.

After i use spray to clean thinking of picking some of these up as well to maybe put on top the cabin filter. Should help draw moisture out.

So far the smell has gone away but without the spray. I did this

I basically attached a high power hose to the drain tube and let it suck for a minute or two. Its been a few days and its the first time I have not smelled it in months.

Updating this. The smell is horrendous now that the humidity is up. My can of spray will be here tomorrow. I will be applying it tomorrow.

You can try turning on the outside air circulate and spraying some of the vent cleaner into the outside vent intake. probably have to pop the hood, and look near the windshield area.

So I used the spray. Ultimate test will be over the next few days. Right away the car smelled better. Hopefully the lemon smell will go away soon but id rather that than mold.

Can is a smaller can not larger as I thought. Under the cap is a hard tube that attaches to the can. The tube has a tiny nozzle attached to it to help the foaming process.

The instructions say to spray in the forward vent or for professionals to spray into the drain hose itself. I opted for the drain tube by pulling up the carpet. Make sure you put a bowl underneath the hose opening as it will run back out.

I did about 3/4 of the can then did the rest in the middle vent.

I dont recommend that. I think some fluid leaked and shorted speaker wires. When I started the car eventually the rear speaker was making a crackling noise. It eventually went away.

The contents are listed. Looks like alcohol is the number one ingredient. I think the rest is to make it create a foam. I did spray some on the curb to see how it worked. The foam only lasted a few seconds and went away.

I would recommend shaking the can every couple seconds while spraying. When I did this you could hear it foaming a lot better. If there is no foam then it probably wont make as much contact inside the housing. I would recommend spraying it all in one quick session as well.

We will see how the next couple days go. I asked the dealership about the smell and they offered to spray some ozone in the vents. I opted for this method.

So its been a few days now after spraying that can into the ac. Wow. Absolutely no more smell. It feels great not getting in the car and being embarrassed anymore.

I am not not using the recirculation option as others have said now.

I should add that the overwhelming lemon scent has pretty much gona away now as well. Really just a fresh smell now.

Thanks for everyones help.

Its been a month now and not one hint of the smell. Im considering that foaming spray a success. Im also not putting on the recirculation all the time now. Thanks for helping out everyone.

One thing that I always do to keep the air in the car fresh is after using the A/C with recirculate ON, I turn the A/C off before turning the car off and make sure the recirculate is OFF.

This way, the inside of the car will be connected to the outside atmosphere.

If you turn the car off with recirculate still ON, it will keep that vent shut, and the air inside your car will be stagnant and unconnected to the outside atmosphere, promoting mildew and mould growth.

~17k miles on my brz and no odors.

Just grab a damp rid box that sucks the moisture out...10 bucks and no smell.
