Radar dector mounting

So I ran some permanent cabling for my radar dector place up on the passenger side of the rear view window, and with alot of siliva I got the suction cups to mount onto the black checkerboard piece of the windshield.

After about 3 months of it falling off once a week and reapplying it with silva I filled the suction cups up with krazy glue and it worked like a charm.

Which brings us to today, had a cold snap last night (turned on my TMPS sensors since I don't have nitrogen in them ATM) and it popped off my radar dector, so I'm looking for a way to mount it to the windshield that will withstand a cold snap, anyone have any ideas? Or have suffered thru this and came up with something that works?

Thanks.

You need to stick it to the plain glass, not the honeycomb-type stuff up higher--its not a flat enough surface to keep it on there (hence why it kept falling off). My detector has yet to fall off, and its been mounted since the early spring.

Also, the reason a cold snap made it fall off was because you glued it. Cold has always made my suction cups stick better, in my experience.

Sticking it on the plain glass is not an option for me, that brings it into view of those I'm trying to hide from.

Cops? Radar detectors aren't illegal in PA, last I checked.

EDIT: Actually, the only places they are illegal in passenger cars are Virginia and DC (and on military bases)

Fair enough...but they have radar detector "detectors" that they use, so if they catch you with the detector, it doesn't matter where you put it.

Just picked up a v1 to replace my aging rx65.

The visor clip seems to keep the detector in a much better location for not being apparent outside the vehicle.

Dependant on your radar detector go onto ebay or amazon and get a bracket that mounts it to your rear view mirror. Then it is perfectly centered in your car and it hangs down so it can read front and back without any obstructions in the way like a lower roof line in the rear or windshield wipers in the front.

You can see where mine mounts in the pic below.

Detector detectors were pretty much averted by the major brands as soon as they came out. I've driven passed many cops in Virginia with it on and never pulled over for it, but then again I didn't buy a sub $300 detector.

So as long as you buy a good detector, it matters 100% where you put it.

Nice mounting but too obvious.

It was stated.

He drives through va, where the detectors are illegal.

Don't matter if its one of the "undetectable" ones if its sitting in the windshield.

Havent had it long enough to tell if it affects sensitivity, let alone changing models, so i cant speak for any sort of comparison on effectiveness. But I really like the visor spot so far. A) i'm too tall to use my visors b) the car is so low only a midget or crouched person could see the detector.
