Muffler delete question - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hello, i am planning to get Berks muffler delete for my car but i have heard mixed reviews that a muffler delete can cause engine problems due to lack of back pressure. Another side tells me that newer cars are built differently so it should not be a problem.

Can anyone help me out and tell me if this is true?

A muffler delete won't cause any issues.

I did not have a Berk Muffler delete, I desgined my own. I felt a difference in the high revs. Nothing happened to the engine, just a lot of badassery.

Other than creating a parachute out of the back bumper, they are completly safe.

A muffler delete shouldn't be causing engine problems.

you must be talking to an old school hot rod guy that believes the myths about backpressure being a good thing

As others have said, it won't hurt anything at all. Reduced backpressure is always a good thing unless you reach the point of reduced velocity.

Actually my friend with a volkswagkon jetta was told by his mechanic cousin that without the catayltic conversion, the car will lose its backpressure causing damage to the engine and low end torque.

There is no issue at all with the delete. If anything, the last 1000 rpm or so really open up. I would guess 5+ horsepower. Definitely enough to notice a difference.

granted, I have a custom delete so my results may be different than the berk design.

We have the Berk exhaust on our FRS and it looks and sounds mean! I haven't noticed any loss of power at all. Plenty of great vendors on here to talk to about Berk. I'd say go for it!

Did you also install a track pipe or any other pipe?

I wasn't working here yet when they ordered everything, so I can't say for sure

Berk owner here. Saves weight and sounds amazing. Zero problems. Best bang for buck mod I have made.

I recently heard it in person and it sounds great with headers. How loud is yours? And do you have pipe?

I only have the Berk as of now, and it's not as loud as it could be. I pass cops all the time who don't even flinch at me. I am waiting on a Tomei cat delete though, and it should really growl after that.
