I agree. My husband thinks it's weird that I think cars are male. He keeps referring to my car as a "she," and I keep saying "stop sex changing my car!" It's a running joke we have. That said, I haven't really named my car yet. A thought came to mind when I was in the purchase process and I haven't come up with a better idea, but I've never been big into calling my car by its name when referring to it (I usually just say "my car"), you know?

Anyone noticed that he's arguing about hating female names on cars, but his user name is Mandy...

When I see people who have a name for their car I just think they are taking it too serious and would be the type to road rage/hurt someone if something happened to their car intentional or accidental. That is why I refer to my car as "the car" (as opposed to "my" car or having a name) and have no name for it. This way I keep it less personal and keep in mind it is a machine and possession, not a living thing worth anything.

In conclusion I'd say you are both wrong and your car should be referred to as the truck or something of that sort.

My FR-S is called Rarity and that hasn't stopped me from abusing it... I'd be pissed if its wrecked at some point, but only because it's impossible to get a hold of another 10 series here.

Rarity? Like when do you even have a chance to use its name? This girl at my werk talks about her husband and calls him "bunny" and its so funny. If my friend said to me Rarity needs an oil change I don't think I could contain my laughter.

Never... whenever I talk about cars, I talk using either model names, chassis codes or say my car...

I named it just for my personal amusement.

My Tiburon used to have two names! One was "my car," and the other was "the car." But now that I have two cars, the Tiburon is now "the Tiburon" or "the Hyundai" and the FR-S is now "the FR-S" or "the Toyota." Because I'm that fancy.

Oh, and back to the OP... are we talking about a Hummer? A Hummer is not a car. Problem solved.

Impossible!

But seriously though, it could be an IS300 with 50 Lexus badges and stickers on it, and I would still call it a Toyota half the time. Just like the Honda NSX and the Nissan G35. I tend to simplify (or oversimplify, some may say) things a lot, and this is one of those things. I've also referred to it as a Subaru several times when talking to nonenthusiasts.

I'm a loose cannon!
