What to do about neighbors

I have some neighbors that party every Saturday until 2-3am. Usually it’s loud as shit Norteno music, a couple weeks ago they had a live mariachi band in their yard well after midnight.

Ive been cool about it. Ive sleepily wandered over and asked they just turn it down. That low frequency bass just propagates through walls though. They turn their bs back up anyways after the song they turned down.

I’m over being cool about them doing them.

I’m thinking about making some Tupperware stink bombs. I don’t have a sense of smell so I can make some nasty stuff to accidentally dump on their fence when their music goes off. I don’t know how to do some Pavlovian conditioning on them with this? Open up a Tupperware when the music is on post midnight hour and scurry back over and shut it after the music goes off?

I’m not down to get my head kicked in but if their breaker box is on the opposite side of their kick it spot, I’m flipping that shit and putting a crappy lock they can defeat on it.

In addition to not wanting to be jumped, I also don’t want my dog poisoned by these ****heads. Nor my cars fucked with. Stealth and anonymity is key in this. I’m trying to get the rest of my neighborhood to stand up and be cool in asking them to chill on their volume but little has happened.

The situation sucks, for sure.

I don't think being a bigger asshole is going to stop them from being assholes. You're more likely to get yourself in trouble. I'd call the police on them, anonymously, or try to figure out some way to be their friends. If you want to avoid suspicion, crash the party for a week or two before calling in.

Or you can always move away, preferably to the countryside where you can get the hell away from people. I did!

Do you know if they're breaking any specific ordinances? Do they know?
I imagine they are, at least a nuisance law if not a quiet time law. The downside is if it doesn't work or escalates, you're going to be moving.
Neighbor spats just suck any sense of enjoyment out of a home.
Definitely don't do things which are themselves reportable.

Plan to party the same nights and start before they do.

just need to play something they will not like.

Calling the cops is probably better tough.

Sacramento County Code, chapter 6.68, provides for Noise Control regulation. Generally, in residential zones of unincorporated Sacramento County, maximum noise levels shall not exceed 55 decibels (dBA) between the hours of 7am to 10pm and 50 dBA between the hours of 10pm and 7am.
These noise limits may be adjusted for, or exemptions may apply to certain activities.
Complaints are addressed with a letter to owner or occupant of the property suspected to be the noise source. This usually resolves the issue. If noise problems continue, an additional complaint should be filed.


To report noise during daytime hours related to commercial or industrial operations, call 311, Monday - Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., and Sundays, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

To report a noise issue outside of daytime hours or not related to a business, please contact Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Non-Emergency Dispatch at (916) 874-5115.

yeah, most places have noise ordinances in place for after 10pm. on the weekends, being noisy till 11-12pm isn't so bad, as long as they're obviously making an effort to wind it down and if the neighbor rarely ever has a party and it's a once-in-a-year situation, i don't mind if they go till 2-3 for that one night.

but all the time/every weekend? that don't fly. i don't wrench in my garage after 9, and there's no reason they can't be wrapped up by 11.

When my wife and I first got married we had some yahoos who worked late as prison guards living in the apartment above us. They’d come home and play CW stuff at insane volumes on random nights during the middle of the week. Then one found a GF and they’d try to crash the bed through the ceiling. Asked them politely to tone it down on weeknights. No Joy.

Finally gave up and 1 started playing Wagner “Ring Cycle” operas with the speakers pointing at ceiling on the dining table at just-short-clipping volumes at 8am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Then, 2 complained to the apartment management. They eventually accepted a truce. Music off at midnight during the week, fucking OK, but get your rocks quickly, that bastard had some stamina.

Shortly after, we bought a house in a neighborhood of 65+ oldsters. = Heaven.

I had many situations over the years. Finally moved, lol.

Basically one of the worst situations about my old place was being right behind a taqueria.

So we got noise from all the customers, etc.

But also, they basically worked through the night. The restaurant closed at 10pm but they constantly were doing shit until about 6am. Usually they had a truck outside playing music loudly. They had cleaners once a month or so who came to powerwash literally the whole property from like 12-4am and the police didn't do squat. The worst part of that was a lot of their roof was like aluminum, so imagine the noise cacophony of a powerwasher just constantly hitting it. They would wheel shit back and forth between vehicles. Loud talking. Homeless people passing through.

Sigh, 9 years of that. Thank the Lord I finally left that place.

And that's ignoring the situation where this middle-aged lady lived in the unit next to me and her senior mother lived in the unit below me.

So they constantly would run up and down the stairs, especially when people came to visit, shout to each other from in front of my door (where my living room was), etc.

This is the same neighbor who was watching her grandkids or whoever they were kick a soccerball at my car and didn't stop them till I ran out and yelled at her and she denied knowing when she was literally looking right at them doing it lol.
