A better BRZ foglight option!

Anyone that has a BRZ knows that the OEM foglights are a little disappointing. Not only do they look dull yellow compared to the HID headlights, but they also are not very bright and due to the odd bulb size (PSX24W) there aren't any easy upgrades available.

But there is a solution! Upgrade to foglights off of a 2011 Subaru Outback!
Why you ask? The 2011 Outback uses a more common H11 bulb and has the same mounting points and dimensions as the BRZ foglight, all wrapped in a stronger housing with a glass lens (instead of plastic BRZ lens).

Here is a comparison of the two foglights:
OEM BRZ Foglight - P/N: 84912FJ100
Weight: 0.24 lbs (Foglight including bulb)
Cost (MSRP): $149.95 each (does not include the bulb)
Bulb: PSX24W
Lens: Plastic
Housing: Plastic

2011 Outback Foglight - P/N: 84501AJ00A
Weight: 0.54 lbs (Foglight including bulb)
Cost (MSRP): $60.18 each (includes bulb)
Bulb: H11
Lens: Glass
Housing: Composite

What do you need to install?
2-Qty Foglights (P/N: 84501AJ00A)
2-Qty H11 Harness pigtails
4-Qty Wire Crimps
Tools: Phillips Screwdriver, wire cutters/stripper, electrical tape

Steps:
1 - Access back of foglight through wheel well, behind splash guard..
2 - Unplug fog light, remove 2 mounting screws, remove foglight.
3 - Install new fog light, secure with same two screws.
4 - Cut OEM foglight connector off. Using wire crimps, connect H11 harness. Wrap with electrical tape when finished.
5 - Plug harness into foglight.
6 - Reinstall splash guard.
7 - Done, have a drink.

If you read you'll see you are required to splice h11 pigtails in.

How's the color temperature on these lights? I'd prefer something that doesn't require cutting off the stock connectors.

That's the beauty of these lights, the H11 bulbs come in several temperatures all the way up to 4200k that match toe OEM fogs almost perfectly. And the housings are sturdy enough to hold up to the heat of an HID conversion better than the flimsy OEM's.

Not yet...this was a test fit of the light itself (if you notice one of the mounting arms is broken on the test light). Now that I know they fit all the necessary parts are on order for the complete install.

I think I might have to do this conversion myself. The yellow OEM fog bothers me. LOL

Would love to get an H11 bulb that matches the OEM HIDs

There are a lot of cars going to that fog light bulb and they are pretty terrible, i put some led's in my challenger that used it and they looked cool but didn't light up much.

If I was going to do this conversion i would use the PIAA Plasma Yellow H11 bulbs but thats just me.
