P0351
stock everything for the engine, tune, etc. bbk and suspension mods only. threw my last/fastest track session. 29k miles brz. probably the hardest my own limited skillz have pushed it on the track. 3rd car delivered at my dealer and it has never been taken back, so if there have been any service bulletin items i have not had the work done. it got up to 85 yesterday. 93 octane. a drive home and to get food a couple times and the check engine light has gone away. 1. do i need to get my oem software updated by the dealer - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=75 ? 2. is the advised fix ordering and replacing the OEM part 22433AA651 ? 3. should i have dealer fix it or is that a bad idea given mods and track stickers on the car ? 4. i see my oil at 270-277 for my fast lap. is this time for an oil cooler too? |
I'll try to keep this updated.
About 3 week ago on the track the magic P0351 came back (Last year was a DI Seal) This time it was clearly the coil since I don't have any POP. Just before my appointment to my dealership, my friend @Silverdub who always work on my car told me just to swap the coil on the same bank to be sure that is the coil. If the DTC goes from P0351 to P0353 we'll be sure that the coil is defective. But guess what, on track condition with swapped coil, no more DTC at all. So I've cancelled my appointment and I've done this... - The coil that was at cylinder 1 is at cylinder 3 position - The coil that was at cylinder 3 is at cylinder 1 position - I've covered the coil with DEI Cool-Tape: http://www.designengineering.com/cat...ials/cool-tape Now I'm testing it... This week I'll track it and I'll give you some update. http://www.quebecfrs.com/forums/MGal...em.php?id=2054 |

Got mine for the first time yesterday. Downshifted to 3rd and gave it WOT with the AC full blast because my car sat 12+ hours in 90+ degree weather. Checked the code, cleared it, and got on here first thing. Glad to see it's not mod related. I've got a Unichip intake and tune and a Perrin crank pulley.

Add me to the list. Got the dreaded 0351 code in session 3 on Sat along with some backfire or popping noises when down shifting. Did quick research and cleared the code but it came right back on the next session. Cleared it again and took the car out for the orientation laps the next morning, no cel. First session it came back and the noise was more prevalent. Retired after cel reappeared.
It was 97 degrees out in the afternoon but cooler in the Sunday morning session. I have an E85 tune and oil cooler. Guess I'll replace the coil on #1 and see if that resolves the issue but the popping sound has me concerned. |

I think the ECU parked above cylinder one is trapping the heat.
These IR images of my engine show it's very hot relative to the ECU mounting bracket. I'm going to switch to an aluminum ECU bracket and see if it dissipates some of this heat better. http://bminor.smugmug.com/photos/i-p.../i-pWFSzRJ.jpg http://bminor.smugmug.com/photos/i-q.../i-qjSq5vs.jpg http://bminor.smugmug.com/photos/i-z.../i-ztN2fdT.jpg |
Took mine to the dealer for this code P0351, and the updated the ECM first thinking it was causing the code. Drove a little bit and bam the code was back immediately, took it back, they swapped the coils and no more issues. My mechanic seems to think that the connections became poor and were the cause of the code. I got 500 km on the update and coil swap and have tried my hardest to get it again before I leave for a big road trip, but no luck. :) moral of story, I was certain it was a bad coil but knock on wood - "was an easy fix". I'll update should anything pop up. I have 54000 km. All stock.
