Dealership said they are replacing the ECM?

So the dealership is fixing some issues with my key not working after they found out my ECM got shorted. I can't find anything about an ECM online.

So I assume she meant the ECU? Does the key on a BRZ limited keyless entry work through the ecu?

ECM = ECU

Different term, for the same thing.

I think there is bit of a terminological mess. ECM may mean specifically the Engine Control Module (which is what people usually call ECU) or more generally Electronic Control Module, meaning any of emebedded systems ("computers") controlling various subsystems of the car.

My guess is that she meant the E(lectronic) CM that controls the door/entry, which is separate from the one that controls the engine.
