Hey, at the very least they make my threads seem popular. I can't remember the last time a discussion I created lasted 3 pages that didn't end with two vendors banned.

To keep it on topic I will ask a dangerous question. If I do not keep the FR-S, what should I consider to replace it that is not a 2016 Miata? I will consider new and used suggestions, though depending on the car a lease might be the only way to afford a new car.

Budget: $300-$400 a month (including insurance!)

No work would be done. Well, at least on my part since I'll be sleeping.

What do you want the car to do for you, fellow owner? Driver feel? GT? Speed? Prius?

Just kidding on the prius.

Well, considering how much I love my FR-S I'd have to say driver feel. I don't want some big, dumb, numb sedan or SUV. I'd like a car in the same field, too bad the choices are so limited. That's why the answer is always Miata.

If my FR-S disappeared, I dunno what I'd get. I'd probably live with my Fiat 500e until the lease is up and then get a Bolt. I'd still want a sports car, though. Might get a GTI, but VW is evil. As for Mustang, GT350 only, and that means GT350R, but that's out of your price range. The regular Mustang is meh. E90 M3. E90 328i manual w/sport or AST suspension for a long term reliable fun luxurious car that looks classy and can run track days. Oh, I like that idea!

Maybe I could just get a cheap econobox lease and hope something better is released in a few years. But that could be a risk. What if nothing cool comes out!?

You can always get into another Twin down the road, at a cheaper price!

2017 Miata

If my 86 disappeared right now, I'd replace it with another 86 given my current plans.

If I tossed those plans out the window I think I'd be looking at a sporty econo box as well, there are a ton right now under $20k used, Abarth or FiST currently top my list (there's actually an Abarth for $14.5k near me right now, low mileage), maybe GTI. Right now is kind of the best time that there's been in terms of econo boxes. From the Mazda3 to Civic Si to Ford Focus ST to Mini Cooper S, there's tons of options if you are ok with FWD and want something that won't bore you.

I'd love to go older, an 80's coupe or NA Miata but realistically those may create problems.

I honestly don't think anything will happen in the street-legal go kart class. You will be choosing between the 86 or a Miata for the foreseeable future. If the body roll isn't a deal breaker and you're short enough. The answer might actually be Miata.

It's like even Mazda thinks an auto Miata is a sin. They take all the good stuff off the auto.

Short list of cars lighter than an 86 with power to match or best the 86 in a straight line:
Ford Fiesta ST
Fiat Abarth
Mini Cooper S

Wait, so it's AT only for you?

The Abarth is awesome, but the 500e is better. I have not driven a Fiesta ST yet, but Ford seats universally suck. The Mini is historically overpriced and uncomfortable. I haven't sat in the newest one, though.

Ah, my one weakness. Yes, I do not drive MT. I know, for shame! The horror! My friends and family give me crap about it.

Actually, there is one stipulation. No Ford. My dad works for Toyota and cannot stand Fords, and if I'm honest he might have me biased against them.

Honestly I think @Tcoat had this thread down in one post haha
